Maybe blogging is the poor (wo)man's version of therapy. I think many of us are just twenty somethings, looking for an end to many unanswered questions. I have been playing the old comparison game, and looking at other girl's outfits as superior to mine. I think we're all guilty of it, but perhaps we don't talk about it. Or maybe you don't feel that way, and for that I am jealous of you. I wish I didn't care.

The worst part of it all, is that these feelings make me want to shop. I have to use all my will power not to step foot into a store or drive my car to the mall. I've filled carts and emptied carts online. It's the first step of the shopaholic cycle. But see, for the first time in a long time I actually have money and that makes me feel proud. So where is that balance between buying new things and saving some dollars?

Okay, I feel much better. Therapy session over.
Thanks :)

  2. Um, first of all, that first photo is stunnnnnning! You are so gorgeous. And second, yes, I definitely feel this way frequently. I try to shake it off and not care, but there are definitely days when I look at my blog and look at others and wonder what the heck I'm even doing. But, just know that many people, myself included, absolutely adore your blog, and your style!! Chin up, beauty.

  7. I totally know what you are saying!
I am constantly looking at other peoples blogs and comparing my outfits and style to theirs. But I think it also just part of being a girl. We are always comparing ourselves to other people. At least I am.
As for shopping...if you figure out a balance, let me know!

  9. Looooved the first picture, you look absolutely gorgeous! But then I read and feel so bad bad, promise not to encourage your shopping desieres never ever again, tweeting that to you was not cool, from now on I'll support, it's very admirable you're saving money, now I feel ashamed for not doing it!

  11. When I feel the urge to shop I usually shop online and put everything I dream about in the shopping carts, but then I leave it alone. I obviously can't afford all those pretty things. I wish fashion was more affordable!

  12. Reading blogs and magazines and constantly checking out other girls' outfits leaves me with feelings of inadequacy too. This morning while I was brushing my teeth I wondered idly how it'd feel to just go to Holt Renfrew and blow an entire paycheque. As soon as the thought popped up it made me queasy though, so I'm doubtful it'll happen anytime soon lol.

Saving money is SUCH a good feeling, knowing that with every penny you tuck away you're one step closer to a goal or to better financial security. I'm on track to buy my own place within the next 2 years and I don't want to compromise that.

  16. These are such a great collection of photographs. Very zen and beautiful.

Just FYI, I think you have an amazing style and wardrobe. Plus you are a beauty who can pull off many different looks. I can understand the urges to shop and update your closet. There is a fine balance between shopping & saving. I have yet to figure it out, but one day I believe we will all find our right balance.

  18. Beautiful photos and images! It's hard not shopping, I totally understand. But it's nice to know that I won't be in debt and that I have a nest egg from saving some money.

P.S. I swear some well-known bloggers come from extremely wealthy families and don't have to worry much about budgeting. Or working for that matter ; )

  19. oh man, that's so my life! I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to be fashionable and look as good as (or preferably better) than the next girl. But I have to remind myself that those insecurities can not be fixed by new shoes. It's about being comfortable with who we are. We all need that reminder - especially when there are so many cute spring clothes to buy!

  21. Alicia, you're absolutely gorgeous (the first photo is you, right?)! And I know what you mean about blogs making you want to shop. I constantly see newer and better with every blog I go on to and realistically I know that I just don't have the finances to keep up with it all. It's awesome that you have been effective at saving. I think the balance is to pay your necessities, save a small percentage, and happily spend the rest. It's definitely not a concept I've mastered by any means (not am I even close) but it's a good thing to strive for!

    Have a lovely weekend!

  22. Beautiful photos Alicia! I hear you about the envy but I have to remember we all have different lifestyles and if I really stop and think about it I'd rather go on a vacation and DO stuff than have the latest clothes and bags - so I have to be realistic and try curb my spending!

  23. i really liked this post because it's true how sometimes we girls can compare and always want nicer, shinier, newer THINGS. but in the end they're all just things and even tho I have definitely been guilty of spending too much money on clothes in the past, I'm now trying to use my money for other things, like buying things for others or helping others with the little $$ i do have. =) and yah.. sometimes blogging about the clothes i want/like is enough, and then i feel like i don't need to actually OWN it anymore.

    haha omg. ramble indeed.

  24. Oh Alicia, it seems you found out everyone really do feel the same way after all! I also have to hold my self not to go crazy and shop everything I see, so I just don't get in any stores now (including online ones). trust me, it works:)

  25. Oh Alicia, how I can relate to the shopaholic cycle in more ways than one. I've done the filling up online shopping carts thing, it's terrible haha. I've even done the, go into a store that's having a 50% off everything sale, load up on items until my arms feel like they're going to fall off, and then make myself justify NOT buying every single item. I actually did pretty well, but then again, I'm going to be super broke in the coming months so I'm trying to train myself early!

Love all the photos that you posted and you look amazing in that leopard print cardi! I can't imagine why you would feel that way because of all the hair envy that I have for you. And the way you put outfits together - so effortlessly! You silly girl haha, but I know what you mean, we all have our moments, and I've been there more times than I'd like to admit. But blogging is like the poor woman's version of therapy. Hope you really do feel better after posting this! Let's catch up soon xo
