I really thought I could never wear a Maxi skirt. It's the whole Little House on the Prarie vibe, plus I'm of average height and let's face it, I have curves. I tried many styles and decided that I could (I hope?) pull off a maxi skirt that was flowy and romantic. It had to have movement, that's for sure! I stumbled upon this lil number at H&M a few weeks back. I opted for the black colour because I'm a chicken it would go with more of my blouses. Not an ideal shade for summer, but I haven't seen summer yet, so I think we're safe.

Rockin' Out with Phantogram at VENUE

We hadn't been to a show in a while, so excitement levels for Phantogram at The VENUE last Friday were off the charts! I dug out my best rock inspired ensemble, including my new cross necklace (street cred) and black knit jumpsuit (coolish? whatever, it's comfy) .

Phantogram is an electronic rock duo from New York made up of keyboardist/newest girl crush Sarah Barthel and guitarist Josh Carter (who is incredibly cute/easy on the eyes). For the first time ever, I saw an opportunity after the opening act to stand at the very front so I took my vodka water and parked it in the front row. Unfortunately, my drink was more parts watered vodka than it was vodka water, so I set it on the stage while we waited for the show to start. A busboy couldn’t tell the glass was full of liquid and spilled my drink all over my new suede pumps. Total accident, but I had to fight off the urge to go all Cher Horowitz on him about ruining my shoes. A lesson learned for me though, turns out suede shoes and bars don’t mix...who would have guessed?

The show was amazing though, I highly recommend seeing Phantogram live in concert when you get the chance! I have a feeling this duo will be hitting the big time soon. There are two short video teasers from the show at the end of this post. Enjoy!

Hmm...too much spacing and not enough patience. I apologize for the giant space issues in my posts lately, I've had it up to here *reaches hand up high* with Blogger lately!!!!

May Shopping List

1. I've desperately been searching for statement necklaces that I really love. They seem to be non-existent! Maybe it's because my price range is lower, but even my go-to jewellery spots don't seem to have what I'm looking for. This gorgeous necklace from Anthropologie isn't bad for $58.

2. With the weather we've been having, I think it's time to invest in some longer skirts. The 'Always Play Flare Skirt' from ModCloth is no longer on my shopping list. Only because its already been purchased and is on its way to my home. There were only 5 left, I had to act fast ;)

3. Dahlia impresses me every season with their feminine vintage inspired pieces. This Dahlia dress, for £70, in particular caught my eye because it makes me think of Paris. What a lovely dress to throw on with sandals and a bright tote during the summer!

4. We all love TOMS for their 'one for one' policy that for every pair of TOMS you purchase, they give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. Next month, I will do my part and purchase the $60 CA brown stripe classic TOMS.

They also recently launched a TOMS Wedding Collection, which I think is super cute for all those brides out there who wouldn't dream of wearing heels on their wedding day. There are also great styles for all the handsome grooms and even some choices for the kiddies in the wedding party. What a great idea for an already awesome product!

5. The fact of the matter is, that I need new sunglasses. Been searching desperately for styles that I like and most of them seem to be online, like these $40 USD Sunblock Shades on NastyGal.

6. I just want J.Crew everything, why do we not have one here in Vancouver? Note to self, must plan a Seattle roadtrip asap!

7. I'm dying for a Kimono inspired jacket and/or dress. I love this ASOS Beyond the Valley Silk Kimono, on sale for $324.98 USD, I guess this one will remain on my wishlist.

Friday morning we woke up to some beautiful sunshine, I couldn't help but get out my favourite romper and some sandals! Danielle and I took advantage of the warm weather and walked to Starbucks for a much needed caffeine refreshment on our lunch break. I treated myself to a non fat (and no whip of course) iced mocha. What's your favourite Starbucks drink?

The darling Solo Lisa and I ventured off to the very first Anthropologie store in Vancouver. This city has been waiting so patiently for one and my goodness, it's nice to have an Anthro location so close to home! We toughed it out and went on opening day Friday along with the rest of the after work crowd. It was busy, yes, but they were extremely well prepared. They were well staffed and able to provide excellent customer service despite the lineups and general customer chaos. I found a lovely pair of high waisted shorts and these green trousers and ogled about 100 other things! Looks like I'll just have to go back. Oh, my poor bank account :(

prints charming

The intimidating thing about this spring is all the extreme shift in trends. Suddenly my denim is being replaced by trousers, skirt hems are longer, and my policy on matching colours and prints is a thing of the past. It's out with the old and in with the confused new, but I really kind of like it. Change can be good.

Easing into mixing colours has been fun, but it was time to move onto prints. In order to make this process less shocking, I decided to pair two prints that are in the same colour story. A black and off white striped cardigan, and a black and off white seagull print blouse.

I've seen so many great print combinations. I can't wait to experiment with florals as well. What prints have you mixed? Any method to your madness?

i feel like a fraud.
i call myself a "fashionista" and yet, i've been parading around lately in leggings and rain boots. let's take into consideration how uninspiring this weather has been. and the fact that i have a closet full of beautiful spring merchandise that is too cold to wear and a closet full of cute winter things that i am sick of wearing. i'm so ready for summer, aren't you?

i was supposed to met up with the super talented ned aka @kingkabuz for an urban photo shoot in gastown last week. i was mid-move and quite unorganized, so i actually forgot we had planned to meet up! i was stuck wearing my rain gear for our shoot, but the truth is now out there now...that i've been dressing casual! at least my new hunters ($30 woot woot) were put to good use :)

obakki fall/winter 2011 fashion show

i ran around like a crazy person after work last thursday trying to figure out what to wear to the obakki show. i knew all of vancouver's most stylish would be in attendance and i just didn't want to get there and feel out of place, you know what i mean? avoided a near disaster when i spilled sauce on my pants just before heading out the door. nothing a little tide to go pen and blow dryer couldn't fix ;) lb and i showed up at the beautiful st.andrew's wesley church on burrard street super excited. we landed a great spot and even sat next to jen and mina!

the show itself was magnificent. they branded their upcoming collection so well, from the haunting church setting to florence + the machine - drumming song. the obakki fall/winter line had some gorgeous cocoon shaped sweaters and jackets, as well as some maxi dresses that i will definitely have to purchase. not only were the clothes amazing, but laura beth and i both loved how their hair was styled and the use of shocking bright lips.

the best part of the evening was chatting with these ladies and recapping the show! from left to right we have laura beth of style without borders, myself, monica of the doctor’s closet, alexandra of to vogue or bust, jen of her waise choice, lisa of solo lisa, and mina of faboulista

the proceeds of the evening went to the obakki foundation, this video by the talented candace meyer for obakki makes you feel like your money has gone to a good place. around the 2:06 mark is my favourite part, though the entire video is amazing!
