I've had to start dressing for an office setting again and it's a welcomed change.  Not that my printed flannel pajamas aren't sexy (because they obvs are), but I do enjoy getting out of the house and to a real desk each morning.  Heels are now pretty much out of the question though, since I already have to schlep my giant laptop and "purse" (which is far more like a duffel bag than it is tote bag, if you catch my drift) on the bus.  I was even yelled at the other day by someone on the bus because she felt as though I had too many things taking up too much room.  That's just part of the joys of public transit people, just one of the joys.

Does anyone else find it difficult to explain how they got to where they are today?  Whether it’s pertained to life in general, this blog, or my career, I often struggle to find the words to describe my journey.  It was just recently, however, that I was explaining my career path to a new acquaintance, and she summed it all up for me.  I’m an opportunist.  Yes, I’ve worked very (very) hard to get here, but the reason I am fortunate enough to be in such a great spot in my life, my blog, and my career is that I’ve jumped at the right opportunities.

That is why I’m especially excited to have the chance to tell YOU about a great opportunity.  Aritzia has personally extended an invite to all you wonderful aliciafashionista.com fans to join their team.  They are currently looking for some awesome individuals (like you) to fill some part time and full time positions for all of their locations, just in time for the holidays!

Holiday hiring_staff and bloggers

My personal experience in the fashion industry began as a part time sales associate for a local clothing company.  I gained the knowledge I needed at store level and worked my way up within the company until I landed a sweet gig in their head office.  If I hadn’t put the time in and learned the operational side of things, it’s doubtful that I would have been as successful landing a role in their head office.  That’s why I want to make sure you don’t brush off this kind of opportunity.  If you’ve been wanting a change, then consider this your sign.

The time has come to dig up that resume and send it in to erin@aritzia.com.  You’ll be contacted soon after and invited for an interview at Aritzia’s Vancouver office.  This is your chance to charm them and get yourself an awesome new job.  Tell them that Alicia Fashionista sent ya, and let me know how it goes!

I've been having one those weeks that is moving so fast, it almost feels like a dream.  Is it actually Friday today, or is the Universe playing some "funny" joke on me?  With a whirlwind of events, meeting, and project, I've had many late night and early mornings.  And coffee.  Lots and lots of coffee.

When I laid eyes on this sheer black maxi dress, I knew it had to be mine (and the $25 price tag was a major bonus).  A staple for this season, I was so excited to style it, with a very particular look in mind.  When it arrived however, what I'd envisioned didn't end up suiting me and I felt slightly discouraged.  I needed to wear this outfit from day  to night and still somehow stay warm in the process.  After trying almost every cardigan and jacket I owned, this chunky grey Kensie sweater caught my eye just as I was contemplating giving up.  With a sweater over top, the dress took on the look of a skirt instead and added just as much of the dramatic effect I was going for.  Don't you just LOVE when accidental styling happens?  Especially when it means you're going to get even more wear out of an item than you'd expected!

Do you have any cool styling tips that you've remember/discovered lately?  Please, do share!

Metric Performs LIVE @ TOPSHOP/TOPMAN Vancouver Store Opening

A big fan of TOPSHOP, I was so excited when they announced their store opening in Vancouver's historic Hudson’s Bay Co. downtown.  Little did I know, that they were opening the largest international TOPSHOP location with over 33,000 square feet of pure shopping bliss.  I had the rare opportunity to pre-shop the new TOPSHOP/TOPMAN Vancouver store yesterday and it exceeded my expectations.  An never-ending sea of this season's hottest styles, complete with both tall and petite clothing sections, a personal shopping lounge, and of course a dreamy wall of shoes.  The chic and dramatic interior is comparable to the TOPSHOP location in SoHO, which I had recently visited, though an even better layout with one level instead of five.  Well, I don't need to tell you, you'll just have to go to see it for yourself!

The fun then continued last night at FIVESIXTY where Metric performed an intimate show for Vancouver's TOPSHOP party people.  The most incredible way to celebrate, Metric played an impressive set of their classic hits and new album favs.  I had the most amazing front row experience, which only enhanced my girl crush on Emily Haines.  She's so charismatic and I mean, just look at her outfit.  In. Love.

The TOPSHOP/TOPMAN Vancouver location is officially open today and is a definite must-see!  I know I'll be back very soon to get my hands on a pair of tapestry printed trousers.  What will YOUR first TOPSHOP/TOPMAN Vancouver purchase be?

Happy shopping!

More print mixing action happening these days and I'm very okay with it.  It's just such a simple way to get the most out of the contents of your closet.  This is my first fall season without a clothing allowance and my wardrobe is definitely feeling it.  It's a blessing in disguise though, because it forces me to narrow my wishlist down to the essentials.  There's also far less (if ever) impulse buying on my part, which means that I actually get wear out of everything I've been purchasing.  Just like a normal person shopping.  Is it possible that the addiction is cured?

Also, I spent a few nights this week updating the about and sponsor pages on here.  Give them a read and let me know if you're interested in partnering on any upcoming campaigns.

Have a wonderful day my darlings!

i think that lately i've been slightly over thinking things.  questioning outfits, my personal style, and what direction i see this blog going.  but, when i was to attend a crème de la crème le reve preview a few days ago, i decided to stop over-analyzing and just threw on some forgotten favourites.

the end result was an outfit that will go down as one of my all-time favourites.  as i feel like this is the exact feel that i wish i could achieve on a daily basis.  tulle, bows, pearls, and vintage-esq purple pumps?  so many pretty things in one little outfit.

if you were to paint a picture of your personal style, what would your ideal outfit look like?

Saturna Island Wedding // Rob + Jo

posted on: October 8, 2012

On a day where I'm reflecting on what I'm thankful for, I can't help but feel beyond lucky for having such awesome (awesome) friends.  My life is full of some amazing people, I'm absolutely spoiled.  Included in this list of great pals are Rob and Jo Ann.  They had a wedding on Saturna Island back at the end of August and with such a stunningly beautiful event, I couldn't help but get snap happy.

This intimate and rustic island wedding began with a ceremony at the incredibly scenic East Point.  Along the path to the ceremony location, there were sticks marked 'The Past' with old photos of the couple, 'The Present' with recent photos of the couple, and then the last one read 'The Future'.  A short and sweet ceremony, but since the pair have been together for 13 years, their personal vows were extra special. All of their guests have been a part of their journey in one way or another.

Following this was a very fun and casual reception on private property that Rob's parents have part ownership of.  Something extra adorable?  Rob's parents were married at the exact same location in 1975!  The party was full of great DIY touches by Jo Ann and her team of creative helpers.  I especially loved her handmade wood cupcake display/centre pieces, make shift photobooth, and display of wedding party photos.  Food and drink featured a serve yourself beer, wine, champagne, and sangria bar, as well as a delicious bbq feast.  We all went down to the beach together to catch the sunset and then enjoyed some speeches.  Then, of course, danced the rest of the night away!

Full of love and laughter, it was an honour to be a part of Rob and Jo's wedding day.  Thanks for an incredible weekend of memories you two, so happy I was able to help capture it!
