5 Winter Staples You’ll Wear With Everything

This exact outfit is essentially what I wore for a week straight over the holiday break.  Mixing the old with the new and staying relatively neutral, I loved the ease and comfort of these pieces together.  Looking at this simple, casual ensemble, I realized that the reason it worked so well, is because it’s all the winter classics together.  Veering away from all black, it’s all about adding a hint of winter white (it’s actually a creamy blush, but let’s not get too picky), a slight pattern, and a bold pop of colour!

I hunted all last season for the perfect knit sweater and was so happy to have found this one from ASOS – for under $50 too!  It’s the EXACT length I’d been hunting for, a slight crop but enough to cover everything up comfortably.  I’ve already worn this sweater way too much, it is my favourite winter purchase so far!

My gift shopping this year was one of my most indulgent, as I think I adopted more of a two for me, one for you kind of strategy.  This plaid blanket scarf from Zara was only $30 and I simply had to have it!  Not sure what their stock is in store, but with their sales on, I can’t even find a link to the style anymore.  Darn that Zara and their incredibly fast turnaround.  Luckily, I found a very similar one with just a little more red here for the same price!  A blanket scarf is always a good investment, especially one with a classic tartan pattern.

High waist black denim, distressed or not, is basically what gets me through life.  Keeps that extra ‘winter warmth’ as I like to call it, nicely contained and is super comfortable.  A dark indigo or black denim is the kind of slimming shade that I know I need from pretty much October through until April.  In fact, after my week of repeating this outfit, I finally wore this pair of jeans to holes at the inseam.  These thighs claim the life of yet another wonderful pair of pants!  I’m now on the lookout for a similar pair, let me know if you’ve seen any around.  For now, I’m eyeing these distressed ones!

I always have to own a really good pair of tall flat boots.  They must be comfortable and flattering, which is why custom Poppy Barley Foxhunt boots were a great choice.  Of course, made to order boots aren’t in everyone’s budget, so with winter sale season in full swing, I’ve seen tons of great options out there.  I absolutely love this pair that my friend has, she has nothing but great things to say about them and they look really sleek on.

And my favourite winter staple, is a perfect shade of red lipstick!  These colder winter months can sometimes make our wardrobe feel kind of tired (especially with all the practical pieces necessary to survive this extremely frigid cold snap we’ve had the last month).  My favourite way to battle that, is with a stunning matte rouge like this Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Bing!  A slightly deeper red shade, but still provides that confident statement and really transforms any look.  Just be sure to wear some lip balm underneath so that you don’t dry out that pout.
