WIN A Pair Of Ketch Shoes

December 17, 2020
ketch shoes review, alicia fashionista, where to buy shoes online canada

Let me introduce you to the lovely Ketch Shoes!

This post is in partnership with Ketch, but as always, opinions are my own!

Ketchshoes.ca has arrived for all of your online Canadian shoe needs and I am so here for it. They’ve shown up just in time for those of us who aren’t as comfortable browsing in stores at the moment but need a more personable shopping experience in order to make a successful purchase.

Some of my absolute favourite shoes from over the years are from brands that Ketch carries. Like my supportive Vionics including these sneakers and these flats (I love this whole outfit, must recreate it soon). These Wittner Dafina sandals are still my go-to summer heel and I see that Ketch has them on SALE, wow run don’t walk. I’ve had a long, beautiful history with Miz Mooz and as you’ll see below, I adore their Django and Juliette line!

The concept of the ketchshoes.ca Shoe Guide is brilliant. A community of artists, creatives, and professionals there to provide honest opinions and help you find the best shoes for you. I was initially drawn to the Django and Juliette Ferras Ankle Boots in black. How cute with black tights or skinny jeans, right?! The problem is that, though I adore the look of them, I had a feeling my wide feet would reject this slim looking boot. Usually a size 8.5 W in boots, I suggested that maybe if I sized up I could maybe even perhaps make them work? Well, one of their Shoe Guides who wears the same size tried them on for me and confirmed that they simply wouldn’t work. Talk about helpful! This is how we ended up with these gorgeous Jinks Ankle Boots. In another life, I think I would have gone for the bright standout Hernan Boots and if I had petite calves, I’d be all over the Inkjet Lace-Up Boots. Pretty much I want all the shoes!

If you sign up for their newsletter, you can get free shipping on your first order and Ketch has also just started a Rewards program! It’s so refreshing to see a customer focused, supportive feeling online shopping experience.

OUTFIT DETAILS AND FIT NOTES

Django & Juliette Jinks Ankle Boots in Tan (c/o Ketch). These beauties are so soft and the colour is really gorgeous in person. Heel height is ideal (2 1/3″) and I love the pointed toe. I think these would also look great with a skirt or dress and maybe even under straight leg jeans if you are into those. My large calves ✨could never✨. I’m normally a size 8.5 Wide and the 39 fits perfectly (with only v thin socklets).

H&M Mama Cotton Jersey Top in Black. I live in this top, in fact, I just ordered another one even though it’s technically ‘maternity’. I find that I live in jeans or leggings and this cotton long sleeve shirt at home. It’s the perfect length and the cotton is super soft. I would say it’s fairly true to size. When I was pregnant, the large was best, but my re-order had to be a medium because it’s all they had left and it works too!

TOPSHOP Long Herringbone Check Coat (previous season). Different colours, but similar styles here, here, and here.

TOPSHOP Jamie Jeans. I sized up in these for my postpartum bod, I believe these are a 34. Not sure what the exact wash is, but the linked pair is v similar.

Palm Springs Style

stripes and florals, how to pattern mix, travel blogger, alicia fashionista, palm springs outfit

It’s no secret that I’m basically an 80 year old at heart.  An old soul quality that is now being supported by my aching joints and terrible short term memory.  I do also love crossword puzzles, episodes of jeopardy, and orthopaedic shoes.  Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that my love of Palm Springs is no surprise to anyone.  The place caters specifically to the elderly and many of the buildings look like they’re right out of the 50’s!

It was so nice getting to spend a week in Palm Springs, even if it did mean sleeping on a couch for 5 nights (the only way I could arrange free accommodation was crashing at my parent’s rented condo).   A week in such a gorgeous desert seemed like outfit photo heaven, so I packed an entire suitcase almost exclusively with photo worthy looks.  I even got my mom to shoot this one – thanks ma!  To my extreme disappointment, as my camera battery began dying, I realized that I didn’t pack the charger.  Which, was extra frustrating when I’d wasted it on photos of myself and left no battery life to shoot anything at my cousin’s wedding.  Thank goodness for decent iPhone photo quality, or I would have cried.  I still can’t find the camera charger.  I think it’s lost forever!

aritzia fall 2015, blanket scarf, bailey nelson sunglasses, fall pastelsLeaving town for a few weeks is always a bit strange.  It feels like you’re disconnected just enough from home, but as though everything is on pause until you’re back again.  Returning is like emerging from a deep, dreamlike slumber.  Distant vacation memories still lingering, making you question whether it even happened at all.  Adam and I are back from Italy and have seemingly returned to an entirely different season.  We’re lucky enough to live in Vancouver, a place where the seasons are mild but very true to their definition.  I feel thrown off that we didn’t see the end of the summer through to give it a proper West Coast goodbye.  We’ve missed the beginning of the falling leaves, and the hustle and bustle of back to school.  My closet is all kinds of confused.  Pretty sure I just spent three weeks purchasing summery things!  The weather far too warm to even consider what that cool autumn breeze could feel like on the skin.

The Shirtdress

Words cannot describe my excitement for my absolute favourite season!  The fact that we’re already able to talk pre-fall fashion makes my heart flutter.  All I want to do right now is shop.  Any spare time I have, I actually lock myself in the apartment and force myself to clean/tidy because otherwise I will jump in that car and head straight to the nearest clothing store.  Can’t wait to carefully put together an autumn shopping list and gradually knock pieces off.  Let the fall closet planning begin!

It’s insane to admit, but I’m still feeling the effects of wedding chaos in everyday life.  I’m constantly tired and am now fighting this annoying sore throat.  I have a suspicion it all has to do with a lack of nutrients due to the fact that I never did revisit the doctor after finding out I’m anemic.  Been thinking about possibly trying out a naturopath and finally putting effort into fixing my stomach issues.  Which is an extensive list of life long problems that are probably only heightened by my lack of iron (I’ve been a vegetarian for almost ever).  A real joy and a delight, I tell ya!  Have you ever seen a naturopathic doctor?  Any words of wisdom?

Pop the champagne!  It’s time for a good ol’ summer bash!  My good friend Jen, from Prairie Girl in the City, and I will be hosting a party on Thursday from 6PM-9PM at Shoes On Fourth.  One of my absolute favourite local spots, this lovely boutique is full of really good quality footwear for an array of personal styles (they even have shoes for the fellas).  Their in-house Miz Mooz brand is one of my go-to’s when it comes to heels, as they fit my awkwardly wide feet and are always offered in a pop of colour as well as classic neutrals.  My Miz Mooz shoes ALWAYS make a statement but are secretly still comfortable…aka the perfect shoe!
I’d LOVE for you to join the fun on Thursday.  The details are below, including an awesome discount, the chance to win gift cards, swag bags, and donations to Dress for Success!  See you in a few days 🙂

I simple adore the English garden party vibes of this Barefoot Contessa dress!  What first caught my eye wasn’t even the 70’s inspired colours or floral pattern.  It was that even though it’s not a tight fit, it still has seams that cinch in at the waistline taking this from shift dress territory to more of an a-line.  Off body, the dress has an hourglass shape all on its own.  It had to be mine!  It’s certainly nice to dress up for once too.  I feel like I keep gravitating towards ripped jeans, sneakers, and a loose tee.  What is happening to me?  Am I on the way to being perpetually casual?  Maybe it’s just because we haven’t been hit with warm weather yet?  Is this a delayed quarter life personal style crisis?  Help!

Last week I got to thinking (always trouble) that I have all this hair and I never do anything with it.  So, on a mediocre hair day, I decided to experiment.  I parted my hair in the middle, flipped my head over to one side and began french braiding from the bottom, upwards.  I took my time, keeping in mind which parts of the braid would be most visible.  I then tried to replicate my right braid on the opposite side with absolutely no success at all.  The first braid was too beautiful to give up on, so I left it and bobby pinned it as a braided crown.  I curled the remaining hair and ended up with what you can see above.  It was quite an extreme to my everyday curls or natural waves, but I did get a few compliments so clearly the masses didn’t hate it.  I’m definitely into the idea of trying other braids and fun hairstyles!  Any requests?

To pass the time before a recent coffee date, I wandered into Bailey Nelson and impulse bought a ginormous pair of prescription glasses.  Some people add a pack of gum to their purchase, I invest in fashionable (AND functional) eyewear.  The purpose behind the purchase was to use up my benefits for last year, but also to congratulate myself on a new gig (I know, I seem to collect jobs like I do frames).  Since the 5th, I’m now teaching a social media course at a local college two days a week.  It has been really challenging in a great way and completely recharging. I know that it’s something that I genuinely enjoy because I now look forward to Monday mornings!  Definitely a sign that you love what you do and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the semester brings.

P.S. How much do you love a glimpse into the contents of my bag in the last photo?  That’s definitely a ton of random papers and a giant Mac power cord… #realtalk
