Summer Makeup Routine

July 24, 2017

vancouver beauty blogger, how to get the no makeup makeup look, alicia fashionista, half asian blogger

I ?? actually ?? put ?? makeup ?? on ?? and ?? did ?? my ?? hair.

I love to be as low maintenance as possible when it comes to an everyday makeup look, especially in the summertime, when skin has a bit of a natural glow and it can be so darn hot out!   This simple look is a slight variation of my no makeup makeup tutorial from last summer.  You can find a more detailed description of the routine there, but this time around, I’ve done a little video of my process for you!  For a complete list of products, be sure to read on below:

4 Favourite Summer Hair Accessories

June 20, 2017

summer hair accessories, canadian beauty blog, goody accessories, alicia fashionistaThis post is in partnership with Goody.  They’re the best, you should definitely keep reading.

I absolutely love leaving my hair mermaid long in the summertime, but that does mean compromise when it comes to styling.  It’s too hot and often windy to just leave it down.  Plus, I am rather lazy and just end up air drying it instead of heat styling in these warmer months.  But, it’s also silly to just keep throwing it up into a ponytail or messy bun every day.  What’s the point of keeping long hair then, right?  I’m really excited that my second post with Goody brought some really great hair accessories into my life.

See below for my top Goody summer hair accessories that are SO easy to use and won’t break the bank!  There’s also a video tutorial and info about an upcoming Goody giveaway.

Canadian Style Happy Tour

June 10, 2017

style happy tour, chatters hair salon, alicia fashionista, vancouver beauty blog

This past week, I was invited to stop by Chatters Salon to check out their Style Happy Tour.  This Canadiana adventure launched here in Vancouver and will take the Chatters team across this beautiful country, brightening people’s day along the way!  They’ve completely customized this ‘tour bus’ and converted it into a salon-on-the-go.  Wrapped in the sweetest pink, with happy turquoise accents, you can’t help but smile when you see the Style Happy set up!  Their menu included quick hair styles like curls, braids, or a top knot, to help combat those bad hair days.   I opted for a half fishtail braid and some flat iron curls and the entire service only took about 15 minutes.  I mean, could we make this happen every day?  How lovely to get my hair done before a day of meetings and work.  It was really nice being a small part of this cross country journey and to wish them luck as they hit the road!

And so, my fellow Canadians, keep an eye out for the Chatters Style Happy Tour!  If you see this pretty pink van roll up in your area, be sure to stop by and get a free consultation and simple style update.

Tour Dates

The Chatters Style Happy Tour is set to run through June, with the last stop scheduled in Ottawa on June 29th. The Tour is making stops in Vancouver (June 7th), Kelowna (June 8th) Calgary (June 10th), Edmonton (June 12th) Regina (June 16th) Winnipeg (June 18th), Toronto (June 23 & 24th), London (June 26th) and Ottawa (June 28th and 29th).

Fresh Balayage Vlog

May 18, 2017

brunette balayage, long hair golden balayage, alicia fashionista, chris weber, artel salon vancouver

The last time I consistently coloured my hair, I was 19, single, and testing out the theory that blondes have more fun.  And though, I ended up not being able to afford the upkeep, I always felt really confident with the lighter locks and look back at those years with such fond memories.  I’m obviously a natural brunette (those Asian genetics are strong within the Quan family) but truthfully, I feel the most ‘me’ with some lighter colour mixed in there too.  Maybe it even has something deep down to do with my mixed heritage.  I’ve truthfully never considered that until this very moment.

I recently shared what I learned about going golden balayage, but since the lovely Rosie left town, I was desperate looking for a new stylist.  I was so excited when THE Chris Weber suggested that I see him with the help of his friend Ali Eskridge.  You see, Ali just moved back to Vancouver from NYC and is building up her local client base and Chris is technically full and unable to squeeze in new guests.  Teaming up was a brilliant idea, and two senior stylists and 3.5 hours later, they created absolute creamy balayage magic!  If you’re also in need of stylist, Ali is your gal, she was beyond awesome!

Simple Hair Style: Space Buns

May 5, 2017

Within my everyday fashion, I love to add a little something to each look that stands out, even if it’s just slightly.  A piece that’s kind of different, a pop of colour, or a conversation starter. This is why the most unique clothing items in my closet are also my most treasured, why my boldest shoes are my most cared for, and why I’ve rocked giant prescription glasses for the last few years.  These fun pieces feel like “me” and the basis of my personal style.  Why is it then, that I ALWAYS play it safe when it comes to my hair?

It’s beyond exciting to finally share that I’m partnering with my favourite brand of hair accessories, Goody!  My relationship with Goody has been a lifelong one, really, especially as a dancer and then a dance teacher.  I cannot even tell you how many brushes, elastics, and bobby pins I’ve gone through in my lifetime – and they were always Goody.

This collaboration began with an introduction to their Simple Styles Kits.  A line of easy to achieve hairstyles, packaged in adorable little boxes with the tools and instructions needed to achieve the look.  The moment I unboxed the first Simple Styles Kit, I realized that I never really take the time to experiment with hairstyles unless my hair is a few days old and getting on the greasy side.  Which, is beyond silly, especially when I put the effort in keeping such long and play-worthy locks.

May 4, 2017

where to get pampered in vancouver, where to get your brows done vancouver, best spas in vancouver, alicia fashionista, vancouver lifestyle blog, canadian beauty blogger

I don’t know if I’ve really explained this, but since I spend so much time in this city, I want to pass on more Vancouver guides and recommendations.  Whether you’re visiting or live just down the street, the beauty of a city is that there’s always something new to discover!  I created the hashtag #604Guide (that I see a couple of random other people have used once or twice…maybe I’m onto something?) because I thought the hashtag would be a cool way to collect ideas on Insta and then I’d create more comprehensive guides and lists here on the blog!

What I wanted to share today was a list I’ve been working on that includes some of my favourite spots around town to kick back, relax, and get beautified!  Self care is so important and no matter what your budget or availability, you can definitely squeeze in a pampering session every once in a while!  From massages, facials, makeup, nails, and brows, you’ll have to read on to find out where you should treat yo self in Vancouver.

What The Dyson Supersonic Is Really Like

April 20, 2017

Of all the material things to become attached to, I never would have guessed that it’d be a hair dryer that would ultimately steal my heart.  And let’s just start out by saying that the fact that this entire post will be an essay about my love for a blowdryer is, of course, ridiculous.  But, I have a lot of hair and I hate washing it because inevitably that requires drying, which is daunting and I’m lazy, so this is actually a big deal in my little world.  What might surprise you most, is that things will begin with a tale of murder.  That’s, right, murder!

What To Know Before Going Golden

March 22, 2017

Your feedback on my recent insta-hair post was amazing!  Not only am I really excited to do a little review of the Dyson Supersonic for you (stay tuned, should be live soon), but I had a lot of questions about my hair colour!  Which, I completely understand because before I started going golden a year ago, I really didn’t know what I wanted for my hair.

December Makeup Favourites

December 13, 2016

alicia fashionista, canadian beauty blogger, easy winter makeup looks, vancouver lifestyle blog

Compared to my summer ‘no makeup makeup’ look, the winter face is about a little more drama.  At this time of year, I’m always looking for more coverage (I’m still on the hunt for a great foundation, any recommendations?).  I love an everyday winged liner because I’m basic like that, but have been playing around with eyeshadows too.  It’s fun to take something (makeup) that I’m not very experienced in and commit to trying to master it.  And by master it, I just mean learn your basic skills but be okay at them.

I’ve discovered some really great products along the way that you can shop below:
