The Search For Unique Swimwear

Shopping for swimwear used to be my worst nightmare.  The only ‘local’ store that even semi catered to my body shape was one that my mom had stumbled upon and about 40 minutes from home.  I remember being a teen, and feeling confused as to why I had to travel so far just to purchase a suit that could accommodate my bust.  And thinking back, they didn’t even necessarily have the most flattering styles for me.  It wasn’t until the high waist bikini bottom became a trend that I FINALLY felt comfortable in swimsuits.  With my natural waistline being the smallest point, wearing bottoms that fit snug on my hips was your basic recipe for muffin top.

Once I started finding bikini tops that came in DD+ sizing, it was another challenge altogether sourcing anything unique!  After years of frustration, I’ve finally found a couple go-to online stores that offer on-trend bathing suits at reasonable prices – thank goodness!  My beach game has majorly stepped up and I feel more comfortable than ever by the water.  Below is this exact suit from ASOS (I stalk their fuller bust bathing suit options daily), don’t you love the unique cut?  The striped fabric is classic, but the cutout and underwire feature make it a real standout!  Be sure to also scroll to the bottom of this post, where I’ve linked some of my favourite online swimwear styles!

Love this. The worst thing for me is when bathing suits come in small, medium, and large. Yeah, none of those are going to work. I love the variety we’ve been seeing lately–like maybe bathing suits should work for every body type 🙂

OMG could not agree more! I’ve put on an XL top and nearly cried in the fitting room because the cups still didn’t fit but the band was huge. If you have any other swimsuit store you love, let me know xo

GIRRRRRL – I didn’t know ASOS carried swimsuits for us larger busted ladies. No WAY! I always have a hard time finding swimsuits because I am so large on top, but I have a super small back. I have to pay an arm and a leg for bras, but haven’t found swimsuits that don’t break the bank.

The one you’re wearing looks fantastic on you!

YES! Love when I can intro women to ASOS’s swimwear! If you’re hesitant about size/purchasing online, I’d wait for a sale and get a swimsuit that’s heavily discounted. The first one I ordered was $13 and now I know my ASOS cup size! Let me know if you ever order one or if you have any other places for DD+ swimwear 🙂 xo

Hi Alicia – I wanted to stop by and say a huge, heartfelt “thank you”!! I’m sure you’ve heard it from many women, countless times – but you have truly changed my life in the best way! I always had a decent amount of confidence in myself and my shape ( I am built very similar to you:) but after having 3 babies, my body changed a bit, And I just couldn’t find a thing to fit. Nothing. So, I still took the time to put myself together each day- but… I wore dresses every. Single. Day —- for years! Even through the winters, and we live in Penticton. Because of your words, and links, and your Impeccable sense of style – I have been rocking skinny jeans, long vests, duster coats and ankle booties. I feel like a new person, and cannot thank you enough… Always looking forward to seeing your newest posts. So, for all the women with curves who can’t find WHERE to get clothes and how to put them together.. I thank you so SO much! And the next time you’re in the Okanagan and need some outfit pics, I’d love to meet up and photograph you .. Have you been to Gods Mountain in Penticton ??? It’s like a secret little European getaway, you’d love it:)) Have a wonderful day and keep inspiring us all!! Xx
