Can you even believe that it’s already time to talk holiday hair?! November means that party season is JUST around the corner and amongst all the gift buying, my to-do list for the next few months includes sourcing the right outfits and hairstyles to look and feel my best. I absolutely love this time of year, don’t you?

I narrowed down a few favourite Shoppers Drug Mart hair products below and even put them to the test for photo ready holiday hair. Be sure to read on to see how it all turned out!

In the interest of preserving my golden balayage highlights, I gave the Dove Damage Nutritive Solutions Colour Care Shampoo and Conditioner a try.  The Dove Colour care system helps keep your colour vibrant for up to 40 washes, which is exactly what I need to keep my locks looking healthy into the new year. I don’t know what kind of magic is in these products, but my hair loves them! For the first time in a long while, my roots weren’t piecey after my shower and my hair feels soft and smooth, even days after washing. My natural waves came through in such a bouncy, healthy way. I’m honestly incredibly impressed and am so glad I discovered this shampoo/conditioner combo!

I have also been looking for an alternative to hairspray, and think that the Nexxus® Comb Thru® Natural Hold Design & Finishing Mist is the ideal solution! I’ve used it to keep a flexible hold in everyday curls, which it does without weighing them down, but it’s also a great way to keep pieces in place in an up-do. Being so light, it prevents flyaways without clumping hair together in that hardened helmet look that no one wants. I quite like this Nexxus find and think you will too!

So what happens when you combine these three fabulous products? You get the inspiration to try out a favourite holiday hairstyle!

Since I most often wear my hair down, putting it up always makes me feel polished and slightly dressier than usual. Paired with a bold lip colour and statement earrings, this super simple holiday hair style is definitely my go-to! Especially since it works just as well, if not better, with second/third/fourth day hair. Though a traditional ballerina bun wouldn’t be so high on the head, I like giving it a modern twist with a top knot height. Being so low maintenance, this easy hairstyle makes for a picture perfect look!

BALLERINA BUN TIPS AND TRICKS

  1. It’s all in the twist!  Simply swirling your ponytail hair in a bun shape will create tons of flyways, especially if you have lots of layers.  You want a tightly packaged bun, not a lion’s mane!
  2. My hair basically only rejects bobby pins, so criss crossing them is an old dance trick and the only way they’ll stay on my head.  Overlapping them in an x shape provides a much sturdier hold and are essential for a ballerina bun!
  3. Since this is a fancier hairstyle, I always make sure to contain any rogue pieces and finish the look with a product like the Nexxus® Comb Thru® Natural Hold Design & Finishing Mist.  I spray the mist and run a comb through, which helps smooth out any lumps/bumps and I often use my hands to pat down any stubborn hairs.
