This was actually my uniform for a week.  An entire week, everywhere I went, I was wearing this exact outfit.  It’s just irresistibly cozy and easy to throw on.   Plus I just can’t get enough of this scarf…or as I like to call it: the adult bib.  Seriously, how is it that scarves manage to catch everything?  I find all sorts of goodies from popcorn and crumbs, to bobby pins and chocolate in my scarf.  Just a great collector of things, those scarves!

Things that are currently awesome:
Anything and everything Style Common related.  We’re onto something great, my friends.
That Adam and I officially booked our flights to England and France.  Hello, Paris outfit planning!
This smoothie recipe.  I’ve replaced my morning coffee with a smoothie and the gym, its been fantastic.
Having Girls HBO, Suits, and Downton Abbey all back on the tele.  Although, don’t even get me started on last night’s episode of Downton, I’m still traumatized.
This adorable photoshoot by Stephanie Sterjovski.  Has me longing for a romantic Valentines Day…and a cupcake.
The fact that I’m already in my pjs and ready to snuggle up to a good book.
Happy Monday xo

This particular hairstyle is a favourite of mine, as it’s so different from anything I’d normally style myself.  Kahlia and I will collaborate on a tutorial soon to show you how we got this killer braided crown. We actually have a few hair tutorials on the way, so there’s that to look forward to 😉   I’m off to finish up at the office here.  It’s a little difficult to get work done on a sunny Friday afternoon!  Hope you all have a weekend of fun ahead xo

You might remember the Lise Watier Pastel Power Party that Kahlia and I went to last month.  A little preview of LW’s spring goodies, and I mean, what better way to fight the winter blahs then to give them a try?  We loved using the romantic pastels in a very under-done look, which is clearly a trend after what we saw at the Golden Globes.
{Get The Look}
Lise Watier Pink Power for highlight and blush
Lise Watier Pastel Power quartet on eyes
Lise Watier Eye Shine Pencil in Vert – a personal favourite of mine
Other products used include Estee lauder BB Cream in Medium, Mac select cover up, Mac mineralize pressed powder in medium on t zone, Guerlain bronzer, L’Oreal voluminour mascara, and Mac lipglass in underage.

If freezing temperatures aren’t a reason to pull sheer blouses and silk shorts out of the closet, then my goodness, I don’t know what is?!  At least we’ve also had a healthy dose of winter sunshine, so I’ve been able to get some wear out of my favourite sunglasses.  Have you ever ordered prescription sunnies online?  Any recommendations?  I’ve been super ghetto and wearing my glasses underneath my sunglasses while driving.  Which, works fine for the road, but it’s not so pretty when I step out of the vehicle and am sporting double eyewear.  Just call me six-eyes!

We walked the long resort hallways in pursuit of the lobby, where Tessa and Adam undoubtedly waited for us (thanks to me, we’re almost always late or just on time for any dates).  It was three years ago now that we started this tradition, and once again we were leaving the resort for an evening.  The four of us hopped in a cab and were well on our way into town.  Driving in Mexico is always an adventure, in every sense of the word.  Speed bumps are upside down, rules of the road seem to be a mere suggestion, heavily armed police check-points are extremely common…and that’s just the highway!  Once you get closer to town, it’s a glimpse of what life is likefor the locals that really transports you, as though a point of passage into their world.  We paid our driver and made some sort of loose deal with him that he’d be back to pick us up at 10, though we knew this was an unlikely arrangement as we were all on vacation time.
We arrived to the usual Playa chaos.  A strange mix of tourists and locals, young and old, and of course, the occasional illegal wild animal.  A few stores piqued our interest along the way, but our big mission was to our usual restaurant of choice – La Parilla.  We snagged a patio spot and enjoyed chips and salsa, tacos, enchiladas, and margaritas over great conversation.  It was then time to walk it off and roam the streets of Playa del Carmen in search for some more drinks.  We stumbled upon an old favourite of mine and Adam’s, a bar called ula gula.  Complete with live music and THE most delicious cocktails, it was there that we sat together content, observing a world that is so alive at night, rich in Mexican culture and extreme(ly awesome) people watching.  We honestly could have stayed right there for hours, but it was back to the resort for us.  It’s always best to leave while you’re still having fun, wouldn’t you agree?

A once hated task, I now quite enjoy packing.  I’m sure much of that is thanks to blogging, as chronicling looks can really only improve one’s ability to outfit plan in a pinch.  It’s especially exciting to pack a bag in freezing temperatures when you’re headed to sun and sand.  Sigh, I already forget what it’s like to step outside and be hit with a suffocating blanket of heat and tropical breeze.  The only thing that greets me when I open the front door these days is the freaky neighbourhood cat (who was for some reason, shaved completely except for its head and paws) and a feeling that can only be compared to venturing inside of a freezer.  I would know what that’s like because you better believe I worked at McDonald’s back in the day!  Where was I?  Right, the outfits.  On a vacation, I’m all about taking the minimum and being able to remix.  Staples, such as these neutral flat sandals and Michael Kors tote bag are a must bring!  It’s so fun to get dressed up every evening at the resort.  Very Downton Abbey-style costume changes and I dig it.

Beauty How-To: Winged Eyeliner

January 11, 2013
step copy
I love wearing winged eyeliner.  I sometimes do a more subtle version for daytime, and a thick, dramatic wing for a night on the town!  The trouble, however, is that when friends ask how I get the look, I’m completely unable to explain it.  That’s why I was so curious to find out how makeup artist Kahlia Adams suggested we all achieve the perfect winged liner.
step1 copy
Start by drawing a guide with a white eye pencil, following the lower lash line.
step2 copy
Draw a line across the upper lid on the lash line and above the white pencil line, using an angle brush and some black eyeliner. Shadow is easier to remove and control
then a gel or liquid liner . You can make sure your proportions are correct
before using the less forgiving medium.
step3 copy
Then take a pen eyeliner (we used a Skinny Marker by NYX)
and start just outside the tear duct till the end of the lash line on both
sides. Flip the pen around so the skinniest part was at the tip of the
wing and follow the guideline. You can build the line up do its as thick and
dramatic as you want.
step4 copy
Use a wet Q-Tip to remove your white line, et voila!
