noticed that i’ve been gravitating towards more feminine and fitted styles lately, especially when it comes to jackets. maybe it’s because for the last few years boyfriend blazers were all the rage and my arms and waist miss seeing daylight. now i have my eye on girly skirts, peplum blouses, and petite jackets. sorry visa, but i blame vogue.

in a moment that i like to blame on a lack of morning coffee, i left the joe fresh store a few weeks ago with two different pairs of denim shorts. it was as though all their cute styles and fabrics overwhelmed me into a state of pure shopping confusion. once home, i realized what a mistake i’d made and set out to exchange one of the pairs of shorts for something else. all meant to be of course, because upon returning to the store, they’d just received a shipment of beautiful maxi skirts. i’d been looking for a cozy maxi to wear around on casual summer days and the bold stripe was a total bonus. also sold me on the fact that i had to size down (almost an instant buy) and that this skirt was only $19. and i may or may not have also purchased it in a solid grey colour. because i have a problem. but seriously joe fresh, you rock!

who doesn’t love an excuse to buy a new black dress? deemed ‘the blackout’ as a bit of a marketing nerd joke (i assure you no one was intoxicated to the point of blacking out), we recently set out for a night of fun for vanessa’s stagette. and i must say, my fellow bridesmaid jessica planned a mean party here in the city!
we began the night at 1181 lounge on davie street. there’s no better way to start out than with hot, shirtless bartenders teaching us how to make cocktails! we enjoyed some drinks there before the limo picked us up for some tunes and a quick city tour.
dinner was at the reflections patio lounge at hotel georgia which was stunning! you simply cannot beat the vibe there, and we even had a mini celebrity encounter when mary zilba from the real housewives of vancouver sat at the table next to us! we then headed to granville street for some dancing and perhaps a few more drinks. was such a great evening, can’t wait for the wedding!

thinking about it, i’ve had some pretty horrific hair days in my time. who could forget the 1980’s bangs that my mother used to curl with a 1/2 inch barrel and then tease?! she claims it was “in” at the time…i call it borderline child abuse. there was the magicuts incident of ’97, when my request for a regular trim turned into a very unfortunate chin length bob. it really didn’t compliment my chubby face, lime green velvet top, and first pair of black flares.
then of course (when i should have known better) there was the mexico trip at 16 when i forgot to pack my hair straightener. picture monica in the friends episodes when they go to barbados and that was pretty much it. and then in a moment of time that i like to pretend never happened, i decided to get the mexican corn row braids to counter-act the frizzy afro. which, as you can imagine, only made things much worse and truthfully, they really hurt!
lately, my hair story has been either parted in the middle and curled, or an oversized bun and i’m very okay with that. compared to styles in the past, i think there was only room for improvement.

clutching a warm cup of coffee and staring out my bedroom
window, enjoying the bright grey hues from the sky. it’s a ryan adams kind of day, though i’m also slightly wishing we were in the middle of a
downpour, so I could close my eyes and listen to the sound of raindrops hitting
out patio. i made the bed this morning and
decided to break all the rules and remain in my pjs. there’s something magical about the lighting in this room right now, and quite frankly i was desperate for a relaxing morning. as business is taking off, i am becoming more and more serious about getting an intern. stay tuned this week for details if you, or anyone you know would be interested!
i loved playing with pattern and a splash of colour yesterday with this outfit. our warmer rainy days often turn into moments of sunshine later on. and in order to avoid wearing rubber boots and sunglasses, i usually opt for bare legs and closed toe footwear. just as long as there’s no suede shoes involved, it’s all good! what do you love to wear in transitional spring weather?
