WIN 250 Business Cards c/o ArtKraft

October 2, 2011

business card giveaway

I learned the importance of personal branding a few years ago, and credit many of my blog successes to this knowledge. The ability to network is vital in so many industries, especially in the world of fashion. In many cases, it’s not what you know, but who you know.
Having a strong social media and blog presence is a wonderful start, but you must have business cards to back it up. Networking can happen anywhere, at any time (sounds so dangerous, reminds me of the Friend’s episode: A State of Unagi that I watched last night LOL).
The ArtKraft was kind enough to offer my readers a chance to win 250 business cards with full colour front and back, matte silk lamination, and custom design.  A package that is normally worth $220 CDN!
To Enter:
Then just leave a comment on this post or my Facebook Page telling me how you entered.
This contest is open worldwide (as you can decide on design via email) and ends Wednesday October 12th, 2011 at 3:00 pm PST.
Up to two entries per person, winner will be selected at random.
Good luck xo

Behind The Scenes: Plum F/W 10

August 20, 2010
I have been up since 5 am and shocked that I’m still awake right now typing this. Actually, Jersey Shore is probably the main reason that I’m up right now. Bah, I’m so ashamed of my “reality tv” addiction lately!!!

Anyways, we had our big Fall/Winter 2010 Photo Shoot this morning at 6 am in Gastown. I made the big mistake of not preparing my outfit the night before so I showed up in a skirt and t shirt with flats. It was sooo incredibly cold all day and it rained for the last 3 hours haha!! At least I was at a fashion shoot so there were sweaters and jackets I could borrow to keep warm.

We had almost the exact same team as last time, with photographer Candace Meyer and stylist Tracey Pincott who are both so awesome to work with. This was my favourite photo shoot that I’ve ever helped with, Gastown was just the perfect backdrop. And I have a total crush on Fall clothes 🙂

Here’s a little behind the scenes look at the shoot. Enjoy my lovelies xoxo

I was nervous to do a photo shoot with my new Nikon D3000, since I only just purchased the camera and haven’t mastered the settings, angles, colours, etc. But with Paula and Arlen’s engagement photo shoot there wasn’t much pressure because they are already getting engagement photos from their wedding photographer. Their professional photographer is very traditional though, and they wanted some other photos with more of an urban feel.

The weather on Granville Island – Sunday June 13th 2010 was PERFECT for a photo shoot! The skies were grey, but bright with no rain for the entire morning we were out shooting. The sun came out two hours into our photo session, which made for the perfect time to do a little outfit change.

Honestly, it makes me sooo happy to take beautiful pictures of people and especially when it helps out my friends. I had so much fun, I am seriously jealous of people who take photos for a living.

Here are some of my favourites out of the 800 photos we took hahaha.
Enjoy!

my nine to five

May 6, 2010
I don’t normally talk about it here on le blog, but today I feel like sharing with you some aspects of what I do for work (well one of my jobs anyways). I work for a local clothing company as their “junior stylist”. Hardly junior, I have now been employed with the company for five years, and working in the design department for three years as of June. Since it’s a small company, I get a ton of hands on experience in marketing such as press releases, their twitter account, and if I’m lucky…advertisements! I also put together the style books of the company’s designs each season, create all trends and product knowledge projects, and make all their in-store signage.

My favourite part of the job lately has been the styling. Up until a few months ago I had to choose outfits, dress them on a mannequin, photograph them, and post them to the web. This was fun at first, but after a while you realize that dressing a mannequin is an absolute pain. After years of asking for it, I was finally allowed to search for my own real live model and if she passed the test shoot then they’d consider using her for all website photos.

It was easier than I imagined finding someone, since I simply used my social network to post an ad and got quite a great response. We ended up hiring Erin, who is not only gorgeous and super enthusiastic, but she also loves fashion and is very stylish herself!
Here is a small sample of some of the photos we’ve done so far…

She looks so stunning in this Max & Cleo dress!

I’m definitely getting these white earrings…

I have this dress in pink…love!
Does this dress look familiar? It’s just like the white one Sarah Jessica Parker wears in the ads for the new Sex and the City movie!
I can’t decide whether I need this blouse or not, and I really want this skirt but do I really NEED another skirt?

I have to get this top…it’s only $35!

I have this boyfriend blazer too in grey haha wow I have a shopping problem!

I think this is one of the prettiest pictures of Erin so far!
I love the lime green and papaya colour combo, the necklace was Erin’s idea.
This look always makes me wish I was on a beach somewhere!

There are tons more photos here.

Completely unrelated to my work, I have to say congratulations to my best friend who was hired today for an amazing job and is finally starting her career/path to fame and fortune. After the “alleged” Olympic incident this year (a whole other story) and obviously for her hard work and talent, she totally deserves a break like this! Heart

no one’s got it all…

The photo shoot yesterday was both super fun and super boring. The whole concept of a photo shoot is exciting to me, but when I really think back to what I accomplished in 8 hours, it sure feels like I did a ton of sitting around. My boss had the right idea and brought a magazine, but then I felt like if I was getting paid to be there I should always be at least pretending to do something?

Anyways, the artistic concept of the shoot was 60’s inspired which is perfect since I’ve been watching Mad Men like crazayyy. The location was a gorgeous home in West Van worth millions I’m sure! Jeez even just the view has got to be worth a million doll hairs!

Yesterday is not even comparable to any other photo shoot I’ve ever helped style. Obviously working with a professional stylist like Tracey is a whole different story. She knew exactly what my boss wanted with a touch of her own styling genius. The photographer Candace and her assistant Andrea were so lovely. The model Amy was better than any model I’ve ever seen at a shoot. She took direction from Candace really well and added the right amount of initiative when needed. As you can tell from the photos, Johnny of hair and makeup was great. The best part, was that all of them work so well as a team and that really shows in their work.

I can’t wait to see the finished photos from Candace & Andrea, they are going to be stunning. Email me at aliciafashionista@gmail.com to inquire about any of the clothing!
