interview with andrea // the closet organizer

January 13, 2011

vitaminwater canada post #3My post for today is going to be borrowed from my vitaminwater posts because I technically wrote those too. So really it’s all the same, just a different site. Makes sense, non?

Regardless, I have been waiting for weeks for you guys to see this post! My new years resolution (as seen on TheAnthology.com) is to keep my closet organized for 2011. An entire year of organization (…looks over at messy closet and ignores the fact that it’s the middle of Jan and I have already let it get a little messy. I’ll start tomorrow :P). I really was SO inspired after speaking with Andrea, that I want to completely reorganize my closet and purge all those “meh” pieces that I don’t particularly wear.Hope you all enjoy the interview with Andrea. As I said before, please leave a comment if you have any questions for her or just want to say hello 🙂 Thanks so much, you’re all the best!

mexico outfit
I’m back from Mexico with a tan and an attitude that’s borderline TOO relaxed. More about my vacation later though (as in, I’m still in the midst of editing over 700 photos). Packing for this trip was rushed and unorganized and there’s many regrets in the way of clothing and accessories. For the first time ever I didn’t over pack, but it was a major disadvantage when I kept thinking of all the wonderful pieces I’d left at home. It’s also quite a chore to get outfit photos on a vacation. I think somewhere in the definition of ‘vacation’ it states that you should be taking a break from outfit photos. I’ll have to check my dictionary for the exact wording 😛

Despite all the clothing I left at home, this was the outfit I was most excited about. I got this dress at Barefoot Contessa on Boxing Day for half price. The colourful pattern is beautiful and the shape is incredibly forgiving. I also love that it can be worn to the office or out for dinner and drinks. Versatility is so necessary. I found so many wonderful things at Barefoot on the 26th, I can’t wait to show you the rest. From now on, I’ll only Boxing Day shop at small boutiques because they have great deals, tons of parking, and a relatively calm atmosphere. Perfect shopping conditions 🙂

It seems surreal, but we leave for Mexico in an hour. The trip is a little bit last minute, so it hasn’t really sunk in yet. I don’t even know what I’ve packed because once again left that until the last minute. I’m so bloody predictable!

I hope everyone had an amazing New Years and that you all have a lot to look forward to this year! I am so thankful to have had such a wonderful 2010, I can’t even imagine all the great things 2011 might bring. I definitely want to focus on achieving balance this year. Less partying, more blogging 😉 No really though, I do want to find more time to blog in the new year, and I look forward to catching up on my blog reading once I’m back home.

Have a great week everyone, be back soon enough xoxo

making faces

Hello my lovely readers! Hope everyone had an awesome Christmas and that Santa spoiled you! I sure got far more than I needed, everyone was seriously too generous! I didn’t take many holiday photos, so I have instead decided to share an outfit I wore last week.

I’m on a remix mission, so I paired an old dress with a new cardigan to liven it up. I need to stop adding to my wardrobe and do a better job of wearing what I already own. No more standing in front of my closet and saying I have nothing to wear…I have TOO much to wear! The main star of this outfit has to be my hat though. Crazy into hats right now. They’re so practical here in Vancouver since we get so much rain, they keep my hair semi protected from the elements. Any other hat addicts out there?

oh hey…i used to have a fashion blog

December 20, 2010
I FINALLY got my life in order and put an outfit post together! It wasn’t easy though. If you missed my tweet about it, I had to get my dad to take these outfit photos of me. And if you know my dad, then you know how silly that is.
Dahlia Dress

I have been dying to wear this dress ever since my mom brought it back from London, but it’s completely see through!!! My white slip just wasn’t helping the matter, and I had almost given up on ever being able to wear this gorgeous dress. Yesterday I had a stroke of brilliance though to try my nude spanx tank top underneath and BAM it totally worked. So glad I could finally wear it and it was perfect for my Sunday activities: The Nutcracker and a Christmas dinner with friends.

Today’s outfit was about simple lines, neutral colours, and minimal effort. Some may call that laziness, but I call it sleeping in. I dreamt of this outfit up in my sleep one night. Does anyone else keep a notebook beside their bed for mid-sleep ideas? I’ve come up with some of my most brilliant ideas and best dance choreography while sleeping. My dreams…they can be so real!

Speaking of which, my point and shoot cam stopped working last week. I was so anxious about not having a working camera, that I dreamt I was on the ferry to the island and saw a huge pod of Orcas. Of course I was camera-less and it was a dream, so the Orcas were high fiving people and doing the most amazing flips with the photo-op of a lifetime. Needless to say, I had to buy a new one the next day. My 11th in about 6 years because apparently I am a camera murderer. The good news out of all of this, is that digital cams are cheap these days and I got a Canon PowerShot A3000 IS for under $100. I can live with that!

As a side note, rompers are about the most impractical thing to wear in the winter. Think about the logistics of it…like say, going to the bathroom? It’s awkward and no fun sitting in a cold bathroom in your bra. Just sayin 😛

Shoe Haul & High Heel Training

November 26, 2010

My “High Heel Training” continues, and I challenge all of you out there to join me! Watch my shoe haul video to see my latest high heel purchases and help me decide if I should keep or return my Jeffrey Campbell wedges. In the video: Sweater and Pearl Earrings from H&M // Bow Headband from Forever 21 // Ring from Plum // American Apparel California Trooper Nail Polish*IMPORTANT: The Dakota Group Sample Sale is from November 25th until the 27th, not the 28th as I state in the video. More info here. To all High Heel Training participants, it is very important that you also bring a pair of flats with you, especially if you are wearing the high heels to the workplace! I recommend Dr.Scholl’s new Fast Flats for $14.99. They’re a classic black ballerina flat that fold easily into your purse, or they provide a small carrying case. “When you just can’t take another step in your heels” …aint that the truth!

Lately I’ve been signing into Blogger with every intention of posting. I stare at the blank post and my fingers freeze up. I feel pressure and overwhelmed. My eyes start to wander and I’m suddenly bored. I try other people’s blogs for inspiration. I reference my list of blog post ideas. Nothing. I take outfit photos that I don’t like. You could say that I have been in a blogging slump. But you know what? Sometimes that’s okay. I’d much rather write nothing than something forced and unnatural.

Kendi wrote a great post today about being yourself. I feel greatly inspired by her words, as I think in the world of social networking it’s so easy to compare yourself. This Facebook friend has the perfect life, this Twitterer (Tweeter?) has the funniest tweets, this blogger has the best outfits. The ironic part is their online perfection doesn’t always translate in real life. And as Kendi points out, the more you compare yourself to others, the more you’re steering away from your own path.

Here I am again to blog this week, as myself. So glad you’re all still here to read 🙂

Storm Watching In Ucluelet

November 16, 2010
The last few months have been packed with events, dates, jobs, classes, workouts, social networking, family, friends, oh my God the list goes on! I operate on high stress all day long, rushing from here to there, A to B, and sometimes C. Quite often, I feel like I just need a moment to stop and breathe.

Adam and I took last Friday off work to go spend a long weekend breathing in the fresh island air. We stayed at a fairly new place called Black Rock Resort in Ucluelet, BC. It’s about 3 hours from the Nanaimo ferry and very close to Tofino. The drive in itself is worth the trip. The views (shown at the beginning and end of the video below) along the highway are breathtaking, like looking at a painting come to life! Black Rock Resort was also beautiful and gave a sense of privacy like a cabin, but with all the bonuses of staying at a resort. We spent our 4 days relaxing, storm watching, walking on the beach, sitting in the hot tub, cooking delicious meals, and enjoying each others company. I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend even if I tried.
