Day 6 was supposed to be Saturday but I technically missed Saturday due to illness, so Day 6 was really Sunday. Meaning that Day 7 is now today, though it should have been Day 8…ya dig?

This little number here is what I wore yesterday for a whopping 3 hours. I know, I know, I really didn’t give this outfit the proper day that it deserves, but that’s okay because I’m sure these items will re-surface in the next 24 days 😉 My 3 hour outing was a hair appointment with Marlee at Axis. She straightened my hair, which hasn’t happened since my hair straightener bit the dust. She also said she’s going to do my hair up all fancy next Thursday when we hang out…yay!009new copy

I obviously had to do at least one photo shoot by our Threadless wall sticker. It’s still one of my favourite features in our home. Unfortunately it made for poor lighting in my photos, but it was all worth it, wouldn’t ya say?

30 for 30 BannerThanks again for the ongoing support everyone, it really makes this feel worth it. I would especially like to thank Kendi, Melissa, and everyone who has been taking my 30 for 30 photographs (Adam, Melface, and Amy!) And a quick hello and thank you to all the new followers and first time readers XOXO

day 5 curtsey

I learned my lesson on both day 3 and day 4 about wearing clothing that was too warm for Vancouver’s heat wave. I instead went for something pretty, which led me to choose the floral skirt. I am still extremely ill in these photos, just so that my co workers don’t think I skipped out on work to have a party. The only party I had consisted of this photo shoot, a trip to Matt’s bench to say hello, and then a long drug induced nap.

These photos were taken by my sweet mother, who insisted on getting Austin on the blog. I don’t know, I think I’m kind of jealous…he looks cuter than me!!!

I’m here and alive…but barely! I really hope you hadn’t given up on me…or even worse, thought that I’d given up on the 30 for 30 challenge! Unfortunately, I’ve caught a flu or strep throat or something along those lines and have been hiding under the covers in bed for a few days. But, this challenge motivates me to get out of bed for a portion of each day so that I can parade around town in my outfit du jour.

day 4

I will fully admit to you that I didn’t wear the hat to the office on Thursday, but I had to put it on for the photos because I’d accidentally washed my makeup off before we took the photos! The hat is my attempt to hide the pale skin and extra rosy cheeks. I was also challenged to wear one hat a week by my favourite Barefoot Contessa gal, so I cannot disappoint!

Sorry about the late post. My laptop wouldn’t connect to the internet at Adam’s house last night. Silly internet…tricks are for kids!

day 3
The weather has been so nice lately, but unfortunately I had picked out warmer outfits for the next few days. It was so hot walking around in that sweater, I definitely regretted wearing it. The problem is that when I get an outfit idea in my head, I simply cannot wait to wear it! Even if it’s as impractical as a sweater in 28 degrees.

day 2

I really like this corner in our apartment. It gets a lot of natural light and we just added a vintage sewing machine table, so it finally feels complete. This was my second time testing out the tripod. It’s a bit of a tricky process right now, but I’m hoping it will get easier with time. Well it better, I still have 28 more days to go!!! My outfit was fairly simple today, I suffered from “I don’t know what to wear” syndrome this morning. It’s a very serious condition that tends to flare up when exhausted and stressed.

I was simply trying to show you my accessories, but it turned out looking like I have a tummy ache. The birdcage necklace is a Shaz original, she made it especially for me because I begged her to. Thanks again Shazzi 🙂

Day 1 of 30

July 6, 2010
I apologize that I double posted and that I will be doing the same thing tomorrow, but WOW what a perfect day to kick off Kendi’s 30 for 30 challenge! Vancouver was drenched in sunshine all day, I managed to shake off my hangover from our 3 day bender, and I finally took my car in to get repaired. Don’t be jealous, but I’m now cruising around Van City in a Sonata 😉 Before I got my Jetta fixed though, they pointed out that my roof and trunk were also damaged. So, they’re pretty much replacing the entire car frame! Whistler on the weekend was an absolute mess, I will be posting about it tomorrow. I don’t even know how many of the pictures I can share and I really can’t even tell you half of the stories, but some of the most shocking moments I’ve ever witnessed occurred all in one weekend. Let your imagination run wild!

What I love about the 30 for 30 challenge is that I am forced to play up my accessories and wear jewellery that I should probably get more use out of before they go out of style. There you go – first outfit and first fashion lesson. Don’t work for a company that sells cute jewellery at a discount and constantly buy new pieces that you never wear until you do a fashion challenge.
That’s all for today kids!

30 for 30 – We Can Remix!

July 6, 2010

30 for 30 BannerDanielle introduced me to Kendi Everyday when she was in the middle of her first 30 for 30 challenge. I was sooooo intrigued and inspired. Kendi was taking a concept I’d only ever seen in magazines and brought it to real life (and by real life I mean in pictures on a stranger’s blog on my computer screen).

How it works: she picked 30 clothing items (including shoes) and remixed only those items for 30 days. Genius, right?

This time around Kendi invited all of her readers to participate in the 30 for 30 challenge and I jumped at the opportunity to join in the fun. I genuinely think that I’ll benefit from this challenge because it will teach me to appreciate the clothing that I have and eliminate the need to shop (I’ve banned myself from shopping for these 30 days). We all struggle to remix the clothing we have in our closet, and I hope to learn things and teach you all what I learn along the way.

So here are my 30 items that I settled on:
3 Jackets

3 Sweaters

7 Tops

5 Dresses

2 Rompers

5 Bottoms

5 Pairs of Shoes
Eeek I’m so nervous slash excited!! Thanks for sticking by me while I attempt to do this challenge. It really means a lot 🙂

PS My cousing Melissa is doing this challenge with me too if you want to see her outfit remixes.

Hello, my name is Alicia and I am obsessed with Twitter.

It seems as though my social networking is building a spiderweb of lies. Okay, they’re not lies…but it’s a hell of a lot to keep up with! Twitter started as an innocent curiosity and a social push to join the “newest” site that everyone else was on. At first I didn’t get it. Who cares to hear what I’m doing? Oooh I’m eating a sandwich. Now I’m opening the door. Just saw a dog. BOOOORING.

But it’s not like that! Oh, why can’t you see that it’s so much more than that?! I have made Twitter friends (high fives to all of you), I get informed of breaking news stories literally as they’re happening. I hear about all the best events going on around town and most importantly, upcoming concerts with my favourite artists. There is always word of the latest sales, promotions, job opportunities, and obviously there’s a ton of funny quotes…140 characters or less! Now to add to the list of reasons why Twitter is currently rocking my world, I simply retweeted a contest that The Commodore’s Twitter account had posted and BAM I have a direct message 30 minutes later that I’ve won. I WON. Good Lord, I don’t think I’ve won anything in my life. No, that’s a lie (the web continues to build…) I once won second place in an Art Knapps colouring contest. I got meself a nice Beauty and the Beast poster, thank you very much!

The tickets were to a Jazz Festival show at The Commodore including The Heavy, Kid Koala, and The Slew. I will admit to you that I didn’t know much about The Heavy except for a few liked songs and of course the famous Kia commercial (scroll down for the YouTube vid) but they were great live!! I will 100% be purchasing their cds and dancing the night away to them!

I’ll save the long thank you speech and simply say thanks to the Commodore and to all the wonderful performers last night! Later Taters.
WON tickets on Twitter!

I woke up this morning to a blank cell phone. My Blackberry flip is just a white screen with an error message. Does my BB not realized that I have a phone addiction? I am having withdrawals here!!! I keep picking it up and checking it, but it’s the same white screen and error message. Rogers sent me an email about how to fix it that is only about oh, 50 steps long. I just can’t wait to dive into that disaster tonight LOL

On a much happier note, it looks like my vacation-less year is turning around. My dad called yesterday about a random cousin getting married in Frisco on the September long weekend. Flights are super cheap, $150 or something? Maybe cheaper if we fly out of Seattle…gotta check it out. Anyways, Adam will come too and my whole family, perhaps some cousins. I have to warn Adam about my family on a vacation…it’s a very different experience. My dad is already stressing out about a rental car, suggesting he’ll drive down before we all fly down there to save money on the rental car? Which sounds ridiculous to me, since gas and accommodations seem like they’d be far more expensive then renting a car for a few days? Haha oh dear. I’m so happy to have an end of the summer workout goal, as well as something to look forward to (don’t worry Paula, I am excited about your wedding too!!!!)

DSC_0034new

It’s so funny that this year Adam and I were making a conscious effort NOT to plan too many weekend trips. We wanted to just relax this summer and enjoy our new apartments and the East Van life. Of course, things are booking up quickly and unfortunately a lot of events are overlapping. Including one party in particular that I’m furious I have to miss 🙁 Why must important events fall on the same day?

DSC_0036new

While we’re talking about weekend trips, my friend Kadie does her birthday in Whistler every year and this will be my third time attending. Each time it’s a different theme and this year it’s “Tight and Bright”. Unfortunately kind of a vague theme, so Brandi and I went out shopping for it the other day. It was definitely a challenge, especially since our go-to store American Apparel was into pastels this spring instead of neons. We totally got sucked into buying 3 nail polish colours from AA though, they were to die for! You’ll be seeing them in posts to come for sure. After an long search, we both ended up getting dresses at Forever 21, which are more bright and less tight because we’d still like to be comfortable!

What is everyone up to on Canada Day? I just realized I wasted my red and white dress yesterday…only one week away from when I should have worn it. I’m so silly! I’ll have to bring out some of my Olympic gear instead. Red mittens in July anyone?DSC_0041new

Dress, Tank, and Belt Plum // Ring Forever 21 // Purse Value Village // Boots Steve MaddenI hope you don’t mind a few more fashion posts than usual. I’m trying to put this new camera to good use and I bought so many summer outfits, I might as well share them with you! It’s actually perfect trying to get outfit shots after work on a sunny day because then it gives us an excuse to go for a nice walk. It really helps to go for a walk after work and forget all the troubles of your day. And it feels good to get moving before dinner! We obviously stopped to watch the dogs swimming for a few minutes. Well the dogs and one random foreigner who thought it was a good idea to swim in Trout Lake? Questionable decision…
