We’ve completely skipped over my look on the second day of Coachella because 1) I forgot to take outfit photos before we left for the day and 2) it’s all a bit of a blur.
2Chainz – Violent Femmes – Hot Chip – Benny Benassi – Moby – Janelle Monae – Phoenix
We’d started off the day at 2Chainz which was a surprisingly good time.  I hadn’t realized how much Adam played their music at home and I knew almost every chorus.  Which definitely makes a show more entertaining.  The group split into Portugal, The Man and Hot Chip and even though I saw Hot Chip, sounds like both shows were awesome.  The Moby set is a must-see, seriously fun dance party.  Alas, I’m SO sad we missed The XX and Two Door Cinema Club, but there were too many conflicts.  Hopefully I can catch them next time they’re both in town.
Right, so Sunday.  This was probably my favourite Coachella outfit, which makes it extra disappointing that this dress is currently covered in dust and an unfortunate red wine spill.  Fingers crossed that I can salvage it!  That’s always the risk you run at a festival.
Grimes – The Lumineers – Tan Lines – La Roux – Vampire Weekend – Wu Tang – Eric Prydz
Sunday equalled The Lumineers, which is pretty much all I cared about.  They put on such a FUN live show (as I ranted about here).  I also had to support Vancouver native Grimes.  Didn’t know Tan Lines or La Roux at all but both shows were fabulous.  As much as I go to watch artists I love, it’s such a bonus to discover new tunes.
To everyone going this weekend, have a blast!  Coachella, I’ll see you again next year!

Coachella Style {Rock + Roll}

Dressing for the first day of the festival felt like a big gamble.  I had no idea what to expect, which is why I opted for classic rock and roll.  And I figure, you can never go wrong with red lipstick, as long as you have chapstick with spf over top!  Heels were a bit ambitious, but I was fine until the evening, at which point I thankfully had a pair of flats in the bag to change into.

As for the Friday lineup (mostly for those going this upcoming weekend), we started our day as early as possible.  Which, unfortunately for me, meant that I crashed much earlier and left a lot sooner than I would have liked.  I managed to see….

Lord Huron – C2C – Alt J – Of Monsters And Men – Modest Mouse – Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Band Of Horses

If I could do it all over again, I’d definitely still leave Alt-J early to catch most of Of Monsters And Men because both shows were awesome.  Instead of rushing to Modest Mouse though, who’s performance I was most disappointed in, I’d have stayed for Local Natives.  I know they put on a great show and it would have been a great sunset setting.  The only other thing I’d change is staying awake to be able to watch Tegan and Sara, but we can’t win them all, right?!

I haven’t owned a jean jacket since middle school.  That dark denim Levi’s jacket got me through some pretty awesome times, and even made a very important appearance in my seventh grade school photo.  Remember those?  The little headshot photos you traded like baseball cards for absolutely no reason other than hope that you somehow got your hands on your crush’s picture.  No?  Just me?   Anyway, I haven’t been able to bring myself to purchase a jean jacket since then, as nothing could compare to old faithful.  That was, until, I tried this number on at Mavi.  Comfortable, fits like a glove, and I literally can’t stop wearing it.  Gotta love when you find something you didn’t even realize was missing from your closet!  Plus, if there’s ever an instance where I need a Canadian Tuexedo in a pinch, I’m totally set.

Oh Monday, where have you gone?  “There aren’t enough hours in the day” is a grossly overused statement of the truth.  My to-do list keeps growing with super fun projects like Air-Care, renewing my car insurance, and the always riveting organizing of receipts for taxes.  Every single year I say I’ll be more organized next time and every single April I sit, frustrated, in a massive pile of little white pieces of paper.  I will never learn.

On a happier note, today may have gone by quickly, but it has been most lovely.  Had the chance to meet Shari and Mike during a photoshoot for TRiM Hair Salon. Treated myself to a skim latte this afternoon and even caught up on the new episode of Mad Men.  It’s not all bad, right?!

I know exactly what you’re thinking right now.  You’re like “Wow, Alicia.  I am so loving the background of these photos.”  And I have to say that yes, I agree with you – that is one beautiful blue dumpster!  This may come as a surprise to my fellow Vancouverites, but Kingsaway just didn’t have much to offer in the way of scenic backgrounds.  And though the giant Safeway sign on the opposite side of the road had a nice pop of red, I figured that the patches of grass on a downward slanted sidewalk was my better option.  Making adult decisions is fun.
So, these bold printed pumps arrived on my doorstep this week and I decided to prep them up with a few of the classics. Point is, I stole one of Adam’s shirts (steal first, ask to borrow later) because that seems to be the only way I can wear a button up without it bursting at the seams.  He gets his custom made by a tailor and it JUST hit me today that I should do the same.  I’ll keep you posted on this oh-so-important revelation.
Lastly, don’t forget to pick up your copy of The Province today for Metropolis at Metrotown‘s Spring 2013 trends styled by yours truly.  It’s all about stripes.  And Michael Kors.  And Michael Kors stripes. LONG LIVE THE STRIPE! xo

I considered this past weekend to be the ultimate test to my recent relatively healthy eating habits and exercise regime.  Instead of chocolate, we celebrated Easter with fresh flowers.  And really, saying N-O to giant chocolate bunnies and bags of mini eggs can definitely be classified as a personal win.  The colourful tulips, peonies, and daffodils that are currently on display around our apartment were a much better idea than overdosing on sweets.  I’m going to make a point of buying flowers for the place as often as possible.  They really brighten up the entire space.

What’s your go-to flower(s) for the home?

A Bird Wearing a Hat and Monocle From a Store with No Name

How brilliant is it for the new clothing store on Main and 8th to not even have a name?  That, my friends, is some smart marketing!  Because I’m telling you about it and you’ll tell someone about it and everyone will soon visit this mysterious store full of beautiful trendy things at a very reasonable price.  We of course had to visit last week and I just couldn’t say no to this oversized tee.  A bird wearing a hat and monocle?  How could I say no?  The store is definitely the right vibe for the area, all you Vancouverites should go check it out this weekend!

Though most of the time I’m seasonally inappropriate, there are those days when I actually do bundle up and dress for the cold (and I’m talking cold in West Coast standards, I totally understand that we’ve received almost zero snow this year).  But it’s spring, I shouldn’t be talking about the cold.  I should be talking about hot sunshine, which is why I’ve spent the morning putting together outfits for Coachella.  It’s all about priorities!  Coachella Style > everything else.

The truth of the matter, is that today has actually brought on the always traditional Spring Showers.  The rain is back, but who cares because WE MADE IT!  Together, we have survived those cold and dark days of winter and are moving right on to sunshine and picnics.  Okay, it’s a little too cold to picnic now but this girl is definitely wishing for an early patio season.  Wishing you all a lovely first day of spring!
