I really like purple accents for fall.  In the right shade, I think it adds something really great, especially to an all black look.  With this in mind, I recently ordered this leopard dress online, but when it arrived, it was too tight in the hips to wear as a dress.  I was slightly disappointed at first, but quickly looked at my resources and decided to make it into a top instead.  Glad that I didn’t have to give it away, I really adore the print!

Hope you’re all having a great week 🙂

As seen on StreetScout.Me today!

This spot is so quintessentially Vancouver to me.  For many reasons, but mostly because it is a symbol of my family’s heritage in this beautiful city.  My grandpa paid the head tax to come over to Canada from China.  He raised a family here in East Vancouver and spent a lot of time in Chinatown. And now as things do, everything has come full circle.  I’ve moved back to East Van from the suburbs and have an office space right down the street from this very landmark.

I was so excited when Sabrina and Jeremy wanted to shoot here.  It only took us 5 minutes (and one angry honk from a bus) to get these shots, and they are some of my favourites of all time.  I love what that view behind me represents and feel proud to be standing in a spot that my grandparents worked hard to make sure I got to be.  Anyway, be sure to hop over to StreetScout.Me to see more of this look and some awesome Vancouver street style!

So let me get this straight.  I can throw on my favourite summer dress (that has been around for more years than I’d like to admit to you right now and I somehow still fit into it, sooooo it’s obviously a favourite…) and pair it with a cute pair of sneakers and I’m ‘on trend’?!  Thank youuuuu, fashion!  The sporty look is an absolute go-to lately, and you don’t even need to be athletic to wear it!  I mean, I NEVER would have been Sporty Spice when playing Spice Girls back in the day.  I was Ginger all the way.  But really, only because Posh and Baby were already taken.  I was a bit of a wimpy kid (not an athlete, see above).  Anyway, I really love when I a trend allows you to add inexpensive accessories to freshen up an otherwise tired piece.  Much like this gorgeous 1 Face Hunger Watch.  Which, isn’t just a pretty face.  This watch does a whole lot of good!  I chose the hunger watch, which can feed up to 16 people and an investment I can most definitely be proud of.  Please visit 1 Face Watch Canada to learn more and to purchase one for yourself!

Am I thankful for the incredibly beautiful and unusually hot summer we experienced?  Yes.  But, I could not be happier that at the exact moment September hit, so did fall weather.  I say this every year, but I’m a fall girl.  The crunch of freshly fallen leaves, the crispness in the air, and the cozy layers.   I welcome autumn with open arms and can’t wait to watch the NYFW fun from afar.  Happy September, fashionistas!

Black and white is going to be THE fall look for me.  I’ve spent years collecting patterned and/or colourful pieces, and suddenly all I can seem to put together is all black, all white, or a combination of the two.  Isn’t it so funny how fashion works?  At least we all have something to contribute to the trend, as this duo really is a timeless pairing.

But, since I did decide to add and element of new, I’m SO glad I finally got a white blazer, even though it’s linen I’m going to try to rock it for as long as possible.  And the see through black tee is going to take me far, I just know it.  Thank you LOFT for being a one stop shop and for my ‘photographer’ Adam for finding this gem of a spot in the city!

“I’m adorable!  I look like Keira Knightley running errands.” is one of my favourite Mindy Kaling quotes from The Mindy Project.  It perfectly encapsulates how I feel when I’m wearing a sporty-chic look.  Slightly slouchy and laid back – effortless, really.  No matter how much time, thought, and money you’ve poured into it!  I had all of this in mind when I popped into the Lululemon in Kitsilano on West 4th.  I stocked up on the usual Ta-Ta Tamer (hands down, best sports bra. ever.) and a cute little tennis skirt.  But, I wanted to go beyond my exercise gear and venture into their everyday wear.

Low and behold, the best darn shorts around.  These have been a summer staple for me, I feel like I can barely remember what dressing was like before them.  They’ve already been on all sorts of adventures, including my flights to and from Vegas, a couple road trips, and even sailing!  They’re comfortable, exactly on trend, and somehow flattering.  I can only assume they’re also magic.

They get at least one more big adventure before summer is over at Lululemon’s Sunset Festival a.k.a. the Seawheeze after party.  And no, I won’t be running it this time around, but have it be known that these shorts really could take me from a half marathon to an afterparty, no problem.  Anyway, you should come join me!  Really though, I don’t have anyone to go with…so like, you should come with.  Details are below xoxo

Sunset Festival – the party of the summer!

Last Thursday, I went about my regular routine.  Stopped in at JJ Bean for a coffee on the way to the office.  Holding my iced Americano, I took one glance at the stairs and then down at my heels and made the very easy decision to take the elevator.  Now, this is going to sound dramatic, but the simple moments before something significant happens seem to be so magnified afterwards.   Maybe its because you process how the fates aligned and each second prior led you to that exact moment.  I can see the vivid imagery of the scene before I stepped onto the elevator like a well studied painting.  There was a man in a pale blue button up who’d held the front door for me but remained on his phone in the lobby.  There was another man in a tee shirt with smoothies and lunch in hand and a woman with a ponytail and scrunchy (I hear they’re coming back in style) just behind him.  The elevator doors opened and we shuffled in.  The man with lunch pressed his floor.  The woman and I had a brief awkward dance, as I stumbled back when she abruptly stopped to press her button.  Floors 3 and 4 were the selection du jour, but as the doors closed I think I knew something was amiss.  We rode up and attempted to successfully reach our first destination, only to not actually get there at all.  The doors started making a straining sound, much like a skipping c.d., as they were obviously trying to open, but never ended up doing so.  “I’ve never been trapped on an elevator” the guy with lunch said plainly, as I felt my face get hot at the thought of being stuck in that steel box of death for any length of time.  Then we started to move again.  “Hope,” I thought, “There’s still the fourth floor!” But, we arrived nowhere and the doors once again tried to open but instead glitched.  So, we went down again.  At this point, I think I would have rather been stuck in one spot.    Riding up and down in a broken elevator with a mind of its own only makes me think of plummeting to the basement in the steel box of death.  So, I started pressing buttons.  First the open door switch, since it said we were on the ground floor and all I could think of was how much I loved and wanted to be safely reacquainted with the ground.  But steel box of death didn’t like that much, since we were, of course, not actually on a floor, but instead in between floors.  Next, I pressed that magical phone button and made a call to the elevator Gods for help.  “Remain calm,” a muffled robotic voice recited to us, “Someone will be on the line shortly.”  Never would I have imagined that I’d ever be stuck on a runaway elevator, but that I’d also be on hold with our potential rescuers.  We rode up once more, and then down once more, and I started to take those deep yoga breaths to try and calm myself.  One mustn’t appear TOO panicked in case the ordeal is over shortly.  Sure enough, steel box of death claims to have reached the third floor, and finally kept true to its word.  I’ve really never been so happy to see those same old hallways.  “Hello?” the operator called out as we, ironically, were finally set free.  Guy with lunch explained what had just transpired and she informed us that we’d just have to tell the building manager.  Which, seemed a tad unfair to anyone else getting on that same elevator after us.  And then, after such an intense five minutes together, we all just kind of parted ways like nothing extraordinary had happened at all.  What I’m trying to say in a roundabout way, is that I’m about to get in GREAT shape because from now on I’ll only ever take the stairs.

To stay on topic, how much do you love this Ted Baker dress?  It was a Heathrow airport purchase last year and I surprisingly had not worn it until this day.  Can you believe that?!  I’ll definitely be getting a couple more wears out of it before this summer is over.

Today marks the one year countdown until our wedding.  Planning has been a slow, near non-existent thing in our lives.  But, I think today officially means we need to start making moves and decisions.

A few months back, Adam and I ventured up to The Old Vineyard in Pemberton for a long table dinner with Chef John Ferris of The Collective Kitchen.  It was even more delicious than it looks in these photos.  The last one is squares of cheesecake with fresh berries and chocolate drizzle.  I mean, come on!  We had the most amazing sunny evening at a long table with strangers, great food, and lots of laughs (and wine).  At the end, I looked at Adam and said “We didn’t even get married today and I had SO much fun!”

We’re heading back to Pemberton this weekend to scope out the what’s it’s like at this time of year.  V. important wedding research, of course. Ironically, the forecast is all rain, which squashes most of my plans.  That’s okay though, I’ll let Mother Nature get the rain outta her system this August 15th, and by next year we’ll be all sunshine and blue skies 😉

Happy August 15th to you all xo
