Nothing says the first day of Spring like nautical.  NOTHING.  Except maybe pastels.  And cherry blossoms.  And probably Easter.  But really, standing by the pool in Florida in navy stripes and a red jacket is for suuuure a decent representation.  Despite being a little grainy, I’m glad Alex and I were able to snap a couple pics that night.  The purple sky was spectacular.

Soooo it turns out that I get two weeks off teaching dance (yes, I’m also a dance teacher once a week because I take the phrase “wears many hats” very literally) for spring break.  This left us with an open weekend and a need to travel.  We’re heading to Portland after work tomorrow because it is one of our favourite cities and because its been three years since our last visit.  So be sure to follow along on insta @aliciafashionista #AFxPortland and @themadadub.  I’ll warn you in advance though, that there will be photos of delicious Stumptown Coffee and Voodoo Doughnuts.  Just saying.

Trend Report // Ladylike Lengths

March 18, 2014
All images are not mine and are from here
These days, fashion is so fast that it can seem difficult to keep up with something as interchangeable as skirt hems.  Yet, there is something so timeless about a flared midi skirt.  A silhouette that is synonymous with Tibi, I love its instant elegance and how it lets you show off your figure AND your footwear.  It’s also a simple way to style a contrasted outfit by pairing it with some edgier pieces like a graphic tee and a leather jacket.   How do you feel about this ladylike length?  Would you rock it?

There was no way yesterday’s rain was going to keep me indoors again.  I had one of those hermit weekends where I sat on the couch for most of it and ate more chocolate than I’d like to admit.  I think we all need those every once in a while.  Adam was away on a guy’s weekend at the cabin, so when he returned yesterday morning, I threw on my favourite P L E N + Y basics and we went for brunch.  There’s a vegetarian place just off South Granville called Heirloom.  We hadn’t been in a while and I forgot just how delicious their food is!  Highly recommend.

After brunching, I made a quick stop at West Elm to purchase this lamp for my new office because, it was a must!  Then, we picked up my brother and the three of us drove down to Bellingham to see Brian Regan’s live comedy show.  If you don’t know his stuff, you can see his Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee feature here, and one of my favourite bits about flying here.  Don’t want to hype him up too much, but he’s hilarious!!  Enjoy 🙂

I think we all just need a little more tulle in our lives!  And man oh man, does it ever make me want to twirl around the room.  I almost have to refrain from ballet dancing my way through life whilst wearing this darling skirt.  I thought I’d pair it with some pretty pastels this time around, as we all know that spring is merely days away!  Which also means that I could anchor the entire look with my burgundy  J.Crew suede heels.  Found those beauties majorly on sale – and nothing makes me happier than finding items I love at a reduced price.

For the very first time in maaaany moons, I was able to leave my winter coat at home.  Sure, once the sun finally went down I was a a little chilly, but let me tell you – it was totally worth it!  These longer days (thank you, daylight savings) have me so extra excited for spring, I can’t stop shopping!
This particular jacket was from a recent shopping adventure and actually, my very FIRST time in Oakridge mall.  Which, I’m pretty sure for a “fashionista” in Vancouver is borderline criminal?  Anyway, I found the most adorable boutique called Judith & Charles and was instantly smitten.  I felt as though I’d been transported to Paris.  Surrounding me was beautiful tailoring with clean lines, feminine cuts, and just really stand out investment pieces.  And that’s what I’m all about lately.  I’d rather be spending my money on a well-made piece that’s going to last, than 5 pieces that I don’t care much about and usually ending up selling within a few years.  Right?!
And lucky for you, that investment might be even easier to make at Judith & Charles!  We’ll be announcing a sweet giveaway tomorrow – stay tuned!

Taming This Mane: TRESemmé 7 Day Smooth

March 10, 2014
DSC_0660

Thanks to the harsh effects of winter, my hair was feeling extra dry, especially at the ends. It really didn’t help matters when I opted to touch up my ombrĂ© colour a few weeks ago as well. My mane was feeling coarser than usual and in desperate need of some tender love and care.

I also don’t have time to make my beauty routine any fancier. I mean, if I am able to even straighten my hair, it’s a good day. That’s where the TRESemmĂ© 7 Day Keratin Smooth System comes in. This 3-part system consists of a shampoo and conditioner, as well as a heat activated product that you apply while hair is damp, just before you blow dry and/or flat iron.

And I really went into this review with very little expectation, mostly thinking that I wouldn’t be able to see much a difference. But after a week of using this system, I saw profound effects on my hair. After just the first wash, my hair already felt softer and much smoother. The most important outcome was the fact that it made blow drying my hair so much easier. I found that instead of tangling and frizzing out, my hair actually cooperated for once and dried far more efficiently. Using my flat iron was also a simpler process, and the end result was a sleeker style than I would have normally achieved.

After three washes and one week total of using the TRESemmĂ© 7 Day Keratin Smooth System, I can honestly say that it delivered on its promises. I would absolutely recommend giving this a try if you need to minimize frizz and smooth out your locks.

Afterlight

TRESemmé 7 Day Keratin Smooth system is a 3 part system that gives you smooth, frizz-resistant hair for 7 days. For more information, visit tresseme.ca

OH MY GOD I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO PUBLISH THIS SINCE WEDNESDAY!  Sorry to Kanye, but what a week.  Who knew that all I needed to complete this was a glass of bubbly and some hermit time?!  Business is out of control awesome at the moment, which I love so much but man is it all consuming.  Nothing to worry your pretty little selves about, I’ve got tons of great content coming your way next week!  So go have yourselves a wonderful weekend, and we’ll meet back here on Monday morning 🙂

P.S. These photos are by Kaoverii Marapon for my interview on Wanderluxe.  Go check it out if you haven’t already!

P.P.S Gotta give a HAPPY BIRTHDAY shoutout to (in my completely biased opinion) the best mama in the whole world!

I’m all three shades of blue today, but only in outfit and not in life, I can assure you.  It’s one of my favourite simple winter looks, which is evident since I basically wore this exact ensemble here as well.  It was ideal for this past weekend, which was all about running errands and catching up on some good ol’ work.  Then of course last night, we had a fun little Oscar gathering at my mother-in-law’s where we snacked on appies and critiqued everyone’s outfits/speeches in our sweats.  Because really, what else is award season about?!  The biggest take away for me was realizing that I’ve basically not seen any of the good movies from last year and have a heck of a lot of catching up to do.  Any that you recommend I label as priority?  Thinking Dallas Buyers Club is topping the list at the moment, but I’m really open to suggestions.
