day 3 bow belt

I just wore this bow belt on my birthday in November. I say “just” as if it were yesterday, but this whole outfit repeating thing is new to me. I blame my obsession with documenting what I wear because I think everyone will remember me wearing it. The funny thing is, that most of you don’t remember these things, or particularly care. It’s something I really need to get over, which is why remixing is a wonderful concept!

I bought this grey shirt dress in England a few years ago and I love how it’s essentially a blank canvas…great for layering! I’d never thought to pair it with polka dotted tights until this day, but I really like how they look together. Although, I’ll admit it was a little on the scandalous side. I’ll likely wear shorts underneath the shirt dress next time, as there were a few people that probably saw more than they bargained for. Certainly not one to wear on a windy day!

today is a new day…it’s day 2

2 printed dress

day two dots

I really wanted to step outside of the box and style this little number up to look super different, but sometimes it’s best to leave a cute piece alone to be the star of the show. Printed dresses are one of my weaknessess right now. I currently have more than I’d like to admit to you in my closet. This polka dot dress was my other Boxing Day purchase at Barefoot Contessa. Half price AND my biggest weakness; I just couldn’t say no.

What’s your biggest shopping weakness?

Unexpectedly, day one has been a whirlwind of emotions, but more about that later. For now, this is me prancing around in a fur hat. Yes, I prance whilst wearing fur. It’s quite a spectacle!

February Fashion Challenge

January 31, 2011

february fashion challengeOkay, so it’s the middle of winter and the other day I was looking out the window at rain and grey skies. It was no incentive to put together a cute outfit. It was the kind of weather that causes depression…DEPRESSION people! To avoid a severe case of the sads, I’m going to attempt a little February project. Because when your plate is already full, why not pile on more?

My idea is for a February Fashion Challenge. I will pick 28 pieces in my wardrobe and show you how I styled each piece. I will not be buying any new items. I will simply shop within my own closet. This may seem redundant, but I’ve chosen each piece for a reason. Some are things I’ve never worn, others are pieces I have a difficult time styling, and some are just my favourite pieces in my wardrobe. I’m trying to step outside of my comfort zone and push my styling limits. And if you didn’t take the time to count the number of items in the picture above, it’s only 18. I still need to photograph the next 10 pieces, which is what happens when you try to pack 28 things in a hurry. Attempting to blog every day for a month is a huge challenge, but I’m totally up for it (haha I say this now, but talk to me in 2 weeks). It’s day one tomorrow and I think I might start with the bow belt, or maybe the fur hat…we’ll just have to see.Happy Monday πŸ™‚

ch-ch-ch-changes

January 28, 2011

IMG_0097newWhen I started this blog almost 3 years ago, I knew nothing about anything blog related. I changed my blog name once a week, I didn’t reach out to any other bloggers, I had no consistency or direction, etc. Now that I have a big interest in marketing and social networking, I realize that my blog “brand” is a mess. Am I 604fashionista, aliciafashionista, back on the block, Alicia Quan? If I don’t know, then YOU certainly don’t know either!

So to start the year off right I’ll be giving the old blog a little face lift and re branding it as simply:aliciafashionista.comForget all those other names (except I can’t change Twitter now, that would just be criminal). And please stick around while I spend this week fixing things up around here. PS you can now “Like” aliciafashionista on Facebook.PPS I have a VERY exciting fashion challenge coming up in February that I think you’ll all love. Details soon πŸ˜€

Our friend Danica was in town last Sunday (LOL our friend, like we share her) as well as our friends Rob and Jo, who have been in Australia for the past year. We decided to do a lap around the Seawall to show Dani what Vancouver has to offer. Also because any moment that isn’t pouring down rain feels like an opportunity to go for a walk these days. Coffees and catching up with friends is my ideal Sunday afternoon, it was so wonderful to see everyone!

This outfit pretty much reflects my uniform lately: jeans, blouse, sweater, repeat. The only added bonus is the hat…okay, and the seagulls. Isn’t that seagull print cute? I’m really loving all the fun prints I’ve seen this season. Just can’t seem to get enough of them!

I’m pretty sure that I’m already sick of winter. I get one week of sunshine and I’m a total weather snob. Ready whenever you are Spring πŸ™‚

life’s a peach // in playa del carmen

January 14, 2011
The reality is that I have too many Mexico pictures to squeeze into one post. Here I have done something extremely innovative; a post that is half outfit post, half photo journal. I know, I know, I’m like super creative and stuff. It’s all about thinking outside of my usual little tiny box πŸ˜‰

This particular day in Meh-i-co we hung out with Adam’s co-worker Adam (are you laughing at white guys with generic names? Because I am) and his girlfriend Tessa. We all took a taxi into the nearest town, Playa Del Carmen. I love walking up and down the streets of Playa because it’s full of cute restaurants, little stores and street vendors, beautiful art, locals, and lots of touristy goodness. I wore my best vintage Aritzia ensemble (by vintage I mean shorts are Spring ’09 and Tank is Spring ’10) and we had a magic hour photo shoot on the beach! After our shoot, we hunted for a restaurant for delicious Mexican food. When in Rome! We settled on La Parilla where we sipped on large sized margaritas and had the yummiest meal of the trip!
