Okay, okay, it might not be the best giveaway EVER, but it’s pretty darn amazing!  Best Day Ever and I have partnered together to give one lucky bride-to-be an entire Day-Of Wedding Coordination Package!*  Normally about a $1000 value, this includes way more than just 24 hours of work.  In fact, the BDE team prefer to call it the Month-Of Coordination Package, since they take care of email confirmations and last minute coordination as the big day approaches.  Plus, they party rock on the day to make sure that your vision comes to life and that your best day ever runs as smoothly as possible.  This is a MUST ladies.**
TO ENTER:

1) Get your pretty little self over to the Best Day Ever Facebook Page and click LIKE!

2) Comment below (or take to Twitter or Facebook) and let me know you did so.
BONUS ENTRY if you tweet:
I want @bestdayevervan to make my wedding the #BestDayEver via @604fashionista – http://bit.ly/17vWWk8

*If the winner’s wedding date conflicts with an existing client’s wedding date, the Day-Of Coordination Package can instead be substituted  for a wedding related party day-of coordination (i.e. a bridal shower or engagement party).  Not redeemable for cash and prize must be redeemed by December 2015.
**Contest open to weddings taking place in the Lower Mainland, BC (where Best Day Ever is located).  If the wedding is a destination outside of the Lower Mainland, then extra costs will have to be covered by the winner.  Best Day Ever contest closes Thursday, November 7th, 2013 at 9:00 pm PST.  Maximum of two entries per person.   Winner will be chosen at random and contacted shortly after. Good luck!

The Proposal | September 22nd in Black and White

October 7, 2013

alicia fashionista, how he proposed, alicia quan wedding

September 22nd was just like any other day.  In fact, it was actually less exciting than all of the Sundays we have endured in the last few months.  The first weekend of Vancouver rain, we lazed around and just relaxed – heck, we even napped for an hour!  There wasn’t a single tense moment or hint of nervousness at all.  Which is why, as we were walking out the door to go to my parent’s house for dinner, something felt slightly off.  It started with the look of panic in Adam’s eyes as he stood there in a nice button up and his best shoes, dangling his car keys.  I glanced back at my own reflection to see an old sweatshirt and jeans, with tattered runners.  We WERE just going to my parent’s for a Sunday dinner after all.  But there was something about this moment that hit me like a ton of bricks.  It was potentially happening.

I immediately felt a wave of nausea at the possibility that this was all a setup for something a lot bigger than a family dinner.  I awkwardly declared that I wanted to change into something nicer and Adam agreed in a sincerely relieved kind of way.  I stood in the bedroom staring at my closet, thinking, “What on earth does one wear to their own proposal?”  I settled on a floral skirt and navy blouse, frantically filed my nails, grabbed my camera, and emerged once again from the bedroom, this time ready to face one of the biggest nights of my life thus far.

On a day where I’m reflecting on what I’m thankful for, I can’t help but feel beyond lucky for having such awesome (awesome) friends.  My life is full of some amazing people, I’m absolutely spoiled.  Included in this list of great pals are Rob and Jo Ann.  They had a wedding on Saturna Island back at the end of August and with such a stunningly beautiful event, I couldn’t help but get snap happy.
This intimate and rustic island wedding began with a ceremony at the incredibly scenic East Point.  Along the path to the ceremony location, there were sticks marked ‘The Past’ with old photos of the couple, ‘The Present’ with recent photos of the couple, and then the last one read ‘The Future’.  A short and sweet ceremony, but since the pair have been together for 13 years, their personal vows were extra special. All of their guests have been a part of their journey in one way or another.
Following this was a very fun and casual reception on private property that Rob’s parents have part ownership of.  Something extra adorable?  Rob’s parents were married at the exact same location in 1975!  The party was full of great DIY touches by Jo Ann and her team of creative helpers.  I especially loved her handmade wood cupcake display/centre pieces, make shift photobooth, and display of wedding party photos.  Food and drink featured a serve yourself beer, wine, champagne, and sangria bar, as well as a delicious bbq feast.  We all went down to the beach together to catch the sunset and then enjoyed some speeches.  Then, of course, danced the rest of the night away!
Full of love and laughter, it was an honour to be a part of Rob and Jo’s wedding day.  Thanks for an incredible weekend of memories you two, so happy I was able to help capture it!

i often purchase dresses on whim, and with no special occasion in mind.  this is why rehearsal dinners are especially awesome.  not only does the event seem to imply that a group of people practice how to eat food in a dinner setting, but they are THE perfect excuse to dig up a pretty dress.  and of course, it’s always special to spend time with family and friends eating good food, telling hilarious stories about the couple, and generally sharing the wedding excitement.
it was a lovely evening last thursday with vanessa and tyler, along with their wedding party.  after a ceremony run-through at the chapel, we headed to il giardino in vancouver’s west end.  we had a delightful outdoor patio dinner, complete with many courses of delicious italian food and an abundance of red wine.

the blackout

who doesn’t love an excuse to buy a new black dress?  deemed ‘the blackout’ as a bit of a marketing nerd joke (i assure you no one was intoxicated to the point of blacking out), we recently set out for a night of fun for vanessa’s stagette.  and i must say, my fellow bridesmaid jessica planned a mean party here in the city!

we began the night at 1181 lounge on davie street.  there’s no better way to start out than with hot, shirtless bartenders teaching us how to make cocktails!  we enjoyed some drinks there before the limo picked us up for some tunes and a quick city tour.

dinner was at the reflections patio lounge at hotel georgia which was stunning!  you simply cannot beat the vibe there, and we even had a mini celebrity encounter when mary zilba from the real housewives of vancouver sat at the table next to us!  we then headed to granville street for some dancing and perhaps a few more drinks.  was such a great evening, can’t wait for the wedding!

let me tell you now, that i love love love everything british!  and though i’m sad that my best friend brandi is moving to the uk to live the dream and marry an english man, i am so excited for an excuse to cross the pond!  so, what better bridal shower theme than an english tea party?!  complete with fascinators, teacups, and cucumber sandwiches!  put on by her mom and sister, they did such a fantastic job.  her mom even made a cake based on one seen on pinterest (and it was deeeelicious!)

unfortunately i’m unable to attend their wedding, but wanted to say that i’m wishing the beautiful bride to be and her fiance lots of love and all the best on the big day!

p.s. aren’t you obsessed with brandi’s bridal shoes?!  the prettiest shade of coral and love the bow detail!
