Fun Things To Do In Vancouver This Summer | #604Guide

July 30, 2018

For locals or visitors alike, here are some fun things to do in Vancouver this summer!

All winter long and throughout our soggy spring, Vancouverites wait for the days with even the tiniest bit of sunshine to get out and enjoy the city!  There’s still (at least) 2 months of summer ahead of us, and Adam and I have been on a mission to live this season to the fullest.  Beyond the touristy things and obvious beach, pool, or patio hangs, I wanted to share some summertime activities that you might want to check out.  Hope you enjoy!

A weeknight sunset beach picnic

After we’ve both been cooped up indoors on computers all day, Adam and I love to make a Hello Fresh meal or grab some take-out (depending on the kind of day we’ve had LOL) and head to the beach to watch the sunset.  It really deters us from sitting in front of the television all night and getting out there to soak up the sun.  Despite his expression in this photo, Reggie loves our evening picnics too, I swear!

P.S. If you want to try out Hello Fresh (because it’s so amazing), then sign up here with the Promo Code: HELLOALICIA for $40 off your first box!

Pixar Exhibit @ Telus World Of Science

I’d tell you this is just for kids, but it’s 100% for adults too.  I absolutely loved checking out the Science Behind Pixar exhibit at the Telus World Of Science.  It is an interactive, educational, and super interesting way to spend an afternoon.  Would be a great way to escape the rain or heat and there’s plenty to do and see around the dome!

Science Behind Pixar runs until January 6th, 2019

Bard On The Beach

I have spent years saying that I wanted to check out Bard On The Beach and I am SO happy to report that I finally went and that it was a blast!  It’s the perfect way to spend a summer evening.  My brother and I saw their playful twist on Shakespeare’s As You Like It, that takes place in 1960’s Vancouver and includes all Beatles music.  Sounds crazy, but it totally works and is really entertaining!

Bard On The Beach runs until September 22nd, 2018.

A Whitecaps Game

I always try to catch one Whitecaps game in the summertime.  I love watching soccer and any excuse to have stadium snacks.  Adam and I caught a game last week and were able to get tickets using our AIR MILES Perks.  Turns out that AIR MILES Collectors can get up to 37% OFF Whitecaps Tickets just for having a card (doesn’t use up any of your points – woot)!  Anyway, wanted to let you know because if you have a card, it’s a great idea to check here if you can get any sort of discount on tickets.

FREE Outdoor Yoga

The awesome Mat Collective is offering free yoga classes all over the city, all summer long!  I’ve been to a few of their classes at Kits Beach and it’s such a beautiful way to practice your yoga being outdoors and staring out at the water.  It’s also a really fun date idea with a friend or significant other!

Mat Collective FREE Yoga is running until August 31st (Downtown, Main Street, Kits Beach), September 20th (Granville Island), and September 27th (East Van).

Mamma Mia

Adam’s ‘Aunt’ Irene (her sister married Adam’s Uncle…you still with me?) stars in Mamma Mia at The Stanley Theatre in South Granville and SHE IS A RIOT.  Everyone’s performance is incredible, but Irene will make you belly laugh and smile throughout the entire show.  As she would say, the show is “A-List” and I know you’ll love it, especially if you’re a Mamma Mia/ABBA fan.  I warn you though, you’ll probably have Dancing Queen in your head for days!

Mamma Mia runs until August 12th, so get tickets before it’s too late!!!!

The Farmer’s Markets

Heck yes, I’m all about fresh, local produce.  We love to head out to Trout Lake on Saturday mornings to get some veggies for the week and then we take a nice stroll around the park with Reg.  It’s so nice for us that they’re dog friendly (as long as they’re relatively well behaved and on a leash, of course).  There are Farmer’s Market locations that pop up all over the city though, you can view their schedule here.

Most of Vancouver’s Farmers Markets run until October.

Theatre Under The Stars

My mom and I went to go see TUTS 42nd Street at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park and what a great show!  The performance left me inspired to dig out my tap shoes and get tapping again.  I’ve really missed it.  Whether you’re seeing 42nd Street or Cinderella, bring a sweater, as it does get chilly amongst those tall trees when the sun goes down.

TUTS runs until August 17th/18th (could be extended, stay tuned)

Shipyards Night Market

Hop across the water and enjoy the food and fun at the Shipyards Night Market in North Van!  Every Friday evening, there’s a beer garden, live music, tons of food trucks, and the most stunning views of the city.  We love to grab an ice cream and watch the sunset on the pier.

The Shipyards Night Market in North Vancouver runs until September 28th, 2018

Bikes and Brews

My friends and I try to do a biking tour of local breweries every summer.  I wrote a post on our original tour route, though there are tons more breweries that have popped up since that I’d add to the itinerary, like Electric Bicycle, R+B Ale and Pizza House, Red Truck, and Faculty Brewing.  Definitely a fun day date idea, but also a good time with a group of friends.  Remember to pace yourself, stay hydrated and to bike responsibly!

Special shout out to a few things we haven’t had a chance to do yet: Playland/PNE, A Canadians baseball game, Celebration of Light fireworks, any of the local hikes, Richmond Night Market, and swimming at Kits Pool.  I’d also keep an eye out for FREE outdoor concerts!  Adam, Reggie, and I had a fun and free afternoon at the Jazz Fest last month and I know the VSO recently did a free outdoor concert.  I’ll let you know if I see any other free shows happening in the city.

To my fellow Vancouverites, what would you add to this list?  Would love to know in the comments below!

P.S. I was gifted tickets to TUTS and Bard on the Beach, but both shows were already on my summer to-do, so how could I not have accepted?!  I also currently have sponsored Instagram content with AIR MILES and Hello Fresh, which were both mentioned in this post.  I only take on sponsorships that are already a part of my life or that fit in seamlessly, but just wanted to make sure it was clear that I was currently working with both brands in some way.

Great round up, I can’t believe I haven’t been able to see a sunset from the beach yet! Playland nights is so much fun! And I want to add swimming at Kits Pool to the list too.
