lemon lime + santogold

My search for the perfect envelope clutch ended when I laid eyes on this Matt & Nat Santogold Clutch. I can honestly say, it was love at first sight. The Ikat print in orange, dark turquoise and green with the black background was so…beautiful! My feelings only grew stronger when I saw this bag came with two additional straps, so I could wear it over my shoulder as well. Opened it up, and the lining is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. Could this be, the perfect bag? As if I weren’t already won over, I found this little baby at the Dakota Group Blowout Sample Sale. So she was a fraction of the price. I’m so sorry Visa, this one was a no brainer! And no, this was not sponsored by Matt & Nat. These words come straight from the fashion loving heart 🙂

Ever since I discovered the styling genius on Atlantic-Pacific, I have been so motivated to create new and exciting looks. No idea how she slipped my fashion blog stalking radar, but I haven’t felt this inspired in quite some time! I locked Adam out of the bedroom and spent a good chunk of my evening dancing around and putting outfits together. Are you guilty of this as well? I doubt boys could understand it, but I just love having an outfit ready for those last minute fashion emergencies!

Hope everyone is having a great week 🙂

Travel Vancouver

to grandmother’s house we go

June 6, 2011

DSC_1698new

On Sunday Adam and I walked onto the 9 am ferry to Victoria to spend the day with Grandma Mary. We’ve been dating for over 4 years, and yet somehow I’d never met his grandma!!! Mary really went through too much trouble and cooked us a Sunday dinner feast…for lunch. But, it was so wonderful sitting at the table hearing her life stories about studying medicine at McGill, travelling the world, and what life was like during the war. I don’t have any grandparents left, so this was especially a treat. She’s famous for gift giving and sent us off with 4 jars of homemade jams, 2 boxes of store bought cookies, a stained glass home decoration that she made herself, and a coffee table book about Calgary from the 80’s.

We left g-ma’s to explore downtown Vic. We were pressed for time though, and I ended up only browsing a few of Victoria’s best boutiques. Rebel Rebel and Flavour were our favourites and I am still regretting not purchasing the Low Luv x Erin Wassen ‘Thunderbird Cuff’ that I tried on. Adam’s aunt and uncle were kind enough to pick us up and drive us to the ferry. It was lovely to meet them as well and we had such a great time we’re already planning our next trip back!

The Famous Pavel Picture

June 5, 2011

We were at a McDonald’s Canucks breakfast event. I’m estimating 1991-ish, so I’d be around 5 years old. We walked around all morning taking pictures with these giant men who I vaguely recognized as Vancouver Canucks players. I was pretty young, so I doubt I grasped the concept of meeting the players that I’d seen on tv. After several meet and greets and line ups, I remember finally being able to sit down to eat breakfast. I was such a happy little girl with a big plate of hotcakes in front of me. I could barely even pick up my fork before Papa Quan came barrelling over, grabbing my hand and insisting I HAD to follow him.

My dad dragged me over to some guy who spoke to me in a thick accent and signed his name on a poster. Another guy shoved a camera in our faces and I did what any confused 5 year old taken away from her yummy pancakes would do…I made the ugliest face that I could. When my parents developed the film, excited to see the picture of my dad and I with Pavel Bure himself, I looked like a goofball.

This photo still makes my family laugh to this day. Sorry dad that I was such a brat and ruined the photo, but this is probably better than a boring picture of all of us smiling normally, right ;)?

Blogger Picnic

June 3, 2011

Last Sunday I met up with some super cool Vancouver bloggers at Stanley Park. The weather actually cooperated, and we were all able to have a picnic in the park avec sunshine!

Our afternoon included the lovely:

Cara of a fashion love affair
Cee of coco and vera
Mina the faboulista
Louise of fifth sparrow
Veronika of girl and closet
Alex of to vogue or bust

If you don’t know these girls already, then it’s time to get acquainted. They are all so wonderful and unique, it’s so special getting to meet them in person! We spent the day sharing stories, eating brownies, and talking fashion. Somehow, out of the entire park, we chose the coldest spot in Vancouver. We were all shivering and covered in goosebumps. Blouse ruffles and skirt hems were flying around (I happened to be wearing both) and yet all of us were trying to be troopers. When Adam met up with us to take some photos, he was sweating and sun burnt. He told us how hot it was and how we must have found the windiest/coldest location. Sure enough, we took a few steps away from the water, and it was boiling hot!! So silly of us, but really funny when I think back to it.

A big thank you to Adam for being patient and taking so many pictures of us. I doubt he realized when we started dating that basic photography skills was a prerequisite.

If you haven’t already had blogger meet ups in your city, I highly suggest it! You may think you’re the only person in your town with a blog, but you’d be surprised how many bloggers there are around. It’s so great to meet and bond with people who understand the crazy world of blogging, so get out there and start researching and planning meet ups! It’s good for the soul 🙂

1994 is back in style

June 2, 2011
With the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1994, this city has literally turned green and blue. I thought I’d dig up my old memorabilia from grade 2, as we apparently spent our days in class talking hockey. We were to write a story based only on the title ‘the Canucks will win’. I don’t want to toot my own horn, but my story is damn good. I do apologize for the spelling errors. I clearly wasn’t an academically advanced second grader.

I now leave you with the lyrics to our original song ‘The Canucks Came Back’ in the tune of ‘The Cat Came Back’ 🙂

I really thought I could never wear a Maxi skirt. It’s the whole Little House on the Prarie vibe, plus I’m of average height and let’s face it, I have curves. I tried many styles and decided that I could (I hope?) pull off a maxi skirt that was flowy and romantic. It had to have movement, that’s for sure! I stumbled upon this lil number at H&M a few weeks back. I opted for the black colour because I’m a chicken it would go with more of my blouses. Not an ideal shade for summer, but I haven’t seen summer yet, so I think we’re safe.

A special thanks to Ned for taking all of these photos (except the close up, that was all self portrait action) and being such an awesome photog. As well as Niki for the awesome DIY turband project.

Rockin’ Out with Phantogram at VENUE

We hadn’t been to a show in a while, so excitement levels for Phantogram at The VENUE last Friday were off the charts! I dug out my best rock inspired ensemble, including my new cross necklace (street cred) and black knit jumpsuit (coolish? whatever, it’s comfy) .

Phantogram is an electronic rock duo from New York made up of keyboardist/newest girl crush Sarah Barthel and guitarist Josh Carter (who is incredibly cute/easy on the eyes). For the first time ever, I saw an opportunity after the opening act to stand at the very front so I took my vodka water and parked it in the front row. Unfortunately, my drink was more parts watered vodka than it was vodka water, so I set it on the stage while we waited for the show to start. A busboy couldn’t tell the glass was full of liquid and spilled my drink all over my new suede pumps. Total accident, but I had to fight off the urge to go all Cher Horowitz on him about ruining my shoes. A lesson learned for me though, turns out suede shoes and bars don’t mix…who would have guessed?

The show was amazing though, I highly recommend seeing Phantogram live in concert when you get the chance! I have a feeling this duo will be hitting the big time soon. There are two short video teasers from the show at the end of this post. Enjoy!

May Shopping List

May 26, 2011

shopping list spring

1. I’ve desperately been searching for statement necklaces that I really love. They seem to be non-existent! Maybe it’s because my price range is lower, but even my go-to jewellery spots don’t seem to have what I’m looking for. This gorgeous necklace from Anthropologie isn’t bad for $58.

2. With the weather we’ve been having, I think it’s time to invest in some longer skirts. The ‘Always Play Flare Skirt’ from ModCloth is no longer on my shopping list. Only because its already been purchased and is on its way to my home. There were only 5 left, I had to act fast 😉

3. Dahlia impresses me every season with their feminine vintage inspired pieces. This Dahlia dress, for £70, in particular caught my eye because it makes me think of Paris. What a lovely dress to throw on with sandals and a bright tote during the summer!

4. We all love TOMS for their ‘one for one’ policy that for every pair of TOMS you purchase, they give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. Next month, I will do my part and purchase the $60 CA brown stripe classic TOMS.

They also recently launched a TOMS Wedding Collection, which I think is super cute for all those brides out there who wouldn’t dream of wearing heels on their wedding day. There are also great styles for all the handsome grooms and even some choices for the kiddies in the wedding party. What a great idea for an already awesome product!

5. The fact of the matter is, that I need new sunglasses. Been searching desperately for styles that I like and most of them seem to be online, like these $40 USD Sunblock Shades on NastyGal.

6. I just want J.Crew everything, why do we not have one here in Vancouver? Note to self, must plan a Seattle roadtrip asap!

7. I’m dying for a Kimono inspired jacket and/or dress. I love this ASOS Beyond the Valley Silk Kimono, on sale for $324.98 USD, I guess this one will remain on my wishlist.
