Whoever invented weekends, I applaud you. Because without them I think I would probably never get anything done! Mine was filled with 90’s jams at birthday celebrations, a bon voyage to someone flying across the world to follow her heart, coffee with my bestie, delicious Indian food with good company, and getting lost for hours walking around this beautiful city. I’m in the middle of the grand finale; jalapeno chips, peanut m&m’s, and The Grammys. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend xoxo

1) I woke up with a sore throat and a severe case of the sniffles. I feel like this hat has become my sick hat, since I wore it the last time I was sick.

2) Aliciafashionista.com will be hosting a very exciting GIVEAWAY next week, so stay tuned!

3) In the midst of updating the blogroll, so if I’m missing your link please let me know in the comments section or send an email to aliciafashionista@gmail.com

4) What does everyone have planned this weekend?

5) I literally couldn’t think of a fifth point. It must be Friday…

day 10 // stripes

February 11, 2011

Though I was up at 7 am this morning, I didn’t get to work until 9 because I spent an hour trying to decide on an outfit. AN HOUR! It doesn’t help that I move at a snail’s pace before noon, especially if I haven’t had a coffee yet. That’s exactly what I get for saying “oooh yeah, it’s been soooo easy remixing my own wardrobe” before this challenge was completely over!

After an hour of frustration and closet deconstruction, I decided to feature the striped jacket I got from Plum last month. This was my first time wearing it and I can’t decide if this styling was the way to go. Thinking about all black next time with red lips or a floral blouse and black trousers. So many options, such cold weather. Are you here yet spring? I’m waiting so patiently with new outfit ideas and everything 🙂

day 9 // money talks

Our first order of business is that a miracle has occurred. I checked my bank account yesterday and there was EXTRA money there. I barely know what extra money means, especially when I’m not going to turn around and spend it all on new shoes (you mean, I just let money sit in my account? I can have a Visa that is paid off?). I haven’t made any drastic changes. I’ve simply refrained from shopping for 2 months and I’ve cut way back on eating out at lunch break and dinner, but that was for health reasons as well.

Remixing my own wardrobe has been surprisingly easy so far. I’m learning to love everything in my closet and getting rid of those items that I scrunch my face and frown at. This challenge is becoming a means of making sure I’m not a total trend whore and buying everything that’s “cool” right now. I want to look put together, without being poor. If that even makes any sense?

As a side note, this jacquard scarf has beautiful rich colours in it and was astonished when my mom gave it to me unopened because she never wore it. One woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure! This is one of my wardrobe favourites right now; I bet all my other scarves are soooo jealous.

day 8 bow brooch

I received this adorable Madewell brooch from my coworker. (Hmm another gift…thanks friends!!) I wore it once as a pretend belt but, since I’ve already worn a bow belt during this challenge, I needed to find another use for it (and should probably stop obsessing over bows. Actually, nah). I looked at some menswear photos on blogs and in JCrew and tried the bow brooch out as a pretend bow tie!

It has been so wonderful to hear all of you say that I’ve inspired you to try and wear something you had forgotten. I mean, we’re all guilty of clothing neglect! This week, I challenge you to make an outfit based on a piece that’s been sitting in the back of your closet. You never know, you just might rediscover an old favourite xo

Did you think I’d forgotten to blog today? It may be after midnight now, but I had every intention of posting these day 7 photos! I just had some very serious business to attend to first, like playing Apples to Apples with my roommates for a few hours. See, I have my priorities in order.

I needed to be casual at work, as I had a photo shoot and lots of running around to do. So my bright teal blazer seemed like the logical choice. Seriously though, I don’t know what happened to my photos today…it’s like I forgot how to pose! I have dinosaur hands and awkward feet, among other unflattering things. I should really post the “blooper” photos, they’re real gems! Let’s hope I can get my act together for tomorrow.

day 6 sweater
My cousin Melissa got me this sweater for Christmas. Incredibly sweet of her, and I love it but for whatever reason, I could never figure out how to wear it! I’d just put on a pair of jeans and feel like those gold sequined shoulders deserved more than old denim. It was wonderful finally wearing the sweater out today, I’ll definitely be wearing this one more often. Even if it is just with a pair of jeans 🙂
Hope you’ve all had a great Superbowl Sunday!

These stupid boots.

Total impulse purchase at Winners. People scrambling over shoes, I go into crazy animal shopper mode and “must have” these guys. Take them home and realize that I never buy anything in brown. Have a huge complex about wearing black and brown together (at least in this shade of chocolate brown anyway), so I think I’ve literally worn these twice! But, it was really fun to force myself to make an outfit with them today and I think I feel more confident that I could wear them more often. At least I learned my lesson and will never opt for brown shoes and will probably be staying away from Winners this month 😉

day 4 mellow yellow

I noticed that I tend to wear neutral colours (a lot) and that one of the easiest ways to brighten my outfits is with a colourful scarf. This particular scarf is part of Plum’s Spring line, but I am already wearing it now. I just love how the soft fabric makes styling it up a breeze.
I’m so excited for the weekend, this has been one of the longest weeks ever. And though I have to work tomorrow morning at the dance school, I look forward to a bit of relaxing. Or trying to at least! Treating myself to a little Broadway show on Saturday night called Avenue Q. Apparently it’s a raunchy puppet musical. Should be interesting.

What do you have planned this weekend?
