It seems that freelancing, personal branding, and starting your own business is the hot career path at the moment.  While it provides many freedoms and benefits, I’m often torn about what to wear to things like coffee dates, client meetings, and networking events.  After over a year of this new lifestyle, I’ve found my balance!  Along the lines of this exact outfit, I mix and match business casual appropriate pieces with comfortable footwear…always comfortable footwear.  I make a point of also including something “fun” or trendy so clients know that I’m up on all the latest and greatest.  Lastly, it boils down to looking well put together, as it goes for almost any career setting.
What’s your workplace dress code like?

Hehe. Mine?! Usually tights + a cardy and… you know, my lopsided top knot. 😉 But, when I'm heading out to meet clients I've been mixing denim with tweed blazers and madewell silk cami's. Love your choice of attire here, Alicia! It's the perfect balance of trendy, professional + comfy!! xo

My work dress code is mostly relaxed. We're not supposed to wear jeans (except Fridays), but I wear colored ones and kind of push that rule anyway. Afterall, I'm just an assistant, I'm not a sales rep, so I don't go out and see clients anyway.

Love the two blush tones together!

You look gorgeous! My work place dress code is business casual… I feel like my style has changed a lot recently, but I am still trying to find a balancing act between fun/work appropriate and age appropriate (I unconsciously dress like a 12 year old sometimes).

Haha I totally hear ya on that one! Definitely guilty of that sometimes too.

My previous job was an artist, so I hardly interacted with people. It was a very "jeans and tshirt" oriented kind of place. Now that I'm a student and running my little production business it's important for me to dress a bit nicer because I'm interacting with more people.

Looks fab! Anyone ever tell you that you look just like one of the final 2 girls of this seasons The Bachelor – Catherine?

    • Alicia March 2, 2013 at 2:20 am

Thanks Anon! Actually, I did get that once and it's such a compliment. Is Catherine your prediction to win it?
