A Year With Reggie

September 5, 2017

Happy Adoptiversary, Reggie Boo!

We’ve just returned from a long weekend camping adventure, our first as a family of three.  Reggie earned the nickname BBQ Bill after jumping onto a picnic table to consume an entire plate of unoccupied meatballs.  He’s spent today, his makeshift birthday, in various positions trying to find comfort in his meat sweats.  Nothing like breaking his strict raw food diet with spicy meatballs.  He’s paying for it though, and perhaps even feels a hint of remorse.  Just a hint.

It was on this day, one year ago, that we raced home from our last weekend of freedom to get the apartment puppy ready.  We spent the afternoon picking up a crate and tidying the place up, as the foster was going to drop him off later in the afternoon.  She left us some provisions and this little scruff ball of cuteness.  It was such an ordinary day, made extraordinary by the arrival of the third member of our little family.

2 Years Into Marriage

August 15, 2017

first years of marriage are toughest, alicia fashionista, 2 years of marriage, healthy relationship conflict

Why the first two years of our marriage have been the toughest of our entire relationship.

Adam and I have been together for over a decade, and living together for more than half of that.  I really thought that marriage would be a simple, almost invisible transition for us.  A couple of rose gold rings and a new title, just surface level stuff.  I don’t know what it was, but the power of exchanging vows in front of all our friends and family brought profound shift within us and our relationship.  All this time, being thoughtful and patient about each stage of our union, brought us into marriage at a time of great personal chaos.

Meal Prep: Make Ahead Smoothies

August 9, 2017

how to smoothie prep, freezing smoothie ingredients, alicia fashionista, vancouver lifestyle blogger

Don’t worry, this is not a post about What The Health.

I have always wanted to be a smoothie person.  The one that shows up to a morning meeting with a delicious homemade green smoothie.  This dream is a bit tough to achieve for someone who lacks energy in the a.m. (and truthfully, never has morning meetings) because I really think you have to be a morning person to be a true smoothie person…or do you?  In my efforts to infuse more routine into my life and eat more whole foods, I have been trying out some meal prepping and it has been a massive help!  The fact that even I can be eating three meals a day, homemade, and full of nutrients is impressive for someone inherently lazy like myself.

I just can’t believe that I didn’t try freezing smoothie ingredients sooner!  It’s such a perfect way to enjoy a breakfast or lunch that nourishes your body and gives you energy for the day.  I finally feel like I’m on the way to be a smoothie person, and damn, it feels great!  The concept is very simple, and really, nothing revolutionary, but I’ve included some helpful notes below in case you want to try it out too.

My Summer 2017 Bucket List

June 25, 2017

summer 2017 bucket list, what to do in vancouver this summer, alicia fashionista, vancouver lifestyle blogger

We are currently in the middle of a heatwave and enjoying the perfect first weekend of summer!  Since I just returned from my 24 hours in Iceland and spent half of this weekend sleeping (or sleepy), I instead dedicated yesterday to planning out our summer to-do list.  I always find that it’s best to write down our July/August activity wishlist, as those summer days tend to fill up fast.  I am SO excited for summertime, there’s so much to do!  Be sure to read on below to find out what our musts are this season.

The Thing About Motherhood

May 14, 2017

Something amazing has been happening lately.  A ton of my friends are having babies.  Like, a TON of them.  It’s all baby showers, newborn snuggles, jolly jumper snapchats, and shopping for fun gifts, because being an aunt is kind of the best.  And besides all the cuteness that now surrounds me (and takes over my phone storage), it has been incredible witnessing so many of my friends become mothers.  Their strength and resilience leaves me in awe and more often than not, I am left wondering how the heck they do it!

Since it’s Mother’s Day, I thought I’d do a post that was a little different.  I asked a couple of my closest friends (very last minute too, you ladies are the best) to share their stories instead.  To get things rolling, I posed the question, “How has Motherhood been different than you’d expected?”

What I didn’t expect in return, was to get so emotional.  I am beyond proud of each of these ladies (and all my mom friends, I wish I’d had enough time to ask every single one of them) for navigating this tough and life changing journey with grace and full hearts.

Today, Adam and I are having a little Mother’s Day brunch for our own moms (because nothing says thank you for sacrificing everything like scrambled eggs).  But, I also wanted to say a big Happy Mother’s Day to all of YOU!  New moms, and grandmas, adoptive mothers, those moms who have lost, the mamas to be, step moms, mothers-in-law, those longing to be moms, and even my fellow fur mamas out there!  Motherhood is simply beautiful and I’m so glad we can all celebrate that today.

xoxo Auntie Alicia

Photo by To Vogue Or Bust

I still feel like I’m easing into the year and we’re almost two full weeks in.  These goals are set for all of 2017 and beyond though, so really, what’s a few days delay anyway?  I eluded to my recently adopted simplified lifestyle here and will expand on that soon (I really want to properly sort my thoughts out for the post), but for now, I’ve narrowed down a few things I’ll be focusing on personally and in business this year!

Home For The Holidays

December 23, 2016

alicia fashionista, christmas campaign, miss vickies chips

Christmas time has always been a bit of a juggling act for us.  In fact, out of our 9 years together, we have NEVER spent Christmas Day together.  It’s tough combining families and traditions into just a couple of days, you know? Last year we tried to squeeze everything in and ended up spending our first December 25th as a married couple at separate dinners.  We met up back at home late that night, I looked at Adam, and declared that this was not to happen again.

This year, not only are we finally establishing our own holiday traditions as a couple, but with the addition of Reggie, it really feels like the first Christmas as a little family.  We picked out a night, as close to the 25th as possible, and gave ourselves the wonderful gift of a cozy night in!
